"Hear Hopscotch's Bass-Blessed R&B Bomber 'Satisfaction'"

Los Angeles producer/singer Angela LaBaw has been unfurling bass-blessed gem after soul-steeped jam as Hopscotch for a couple of years, and now she's back with the 12-track Archer EP & Remixes. Arguably the set's strongest cut is "Satisfaction," a burbling, bleak-sounding slab of wobbly R&B that feature our heroine's creepily yearning vocals: "Feed, feed, feed us more." Stream that below, and visit the Hopscotch SoundCloud account for remixes from the likes of Rex Riot, Sigrah, Dimond Saints, Sounds What, Jantsen & Dirtmonkey, Brooksbrown, Christopher Norman, and Champagne. - SPIN

"CODE First Play: Hopscotch, 'Satisfaction' (Dimond Saints Remix)"

The Bay Area got a little more bass-heavy when San Francisco veteran an-ten-nae announced he was teaming up with Oakland artist Releece to form their Dimond Saints side project. The low-end lovers have now brought their signature broken beats and future bass sounds to “Satisfaction,” the latest single by Los Angeles’ Hopscotch, also known as Angela LaBaw.

“We are super happy with the combo of Hopscotch’s voice and the production elements we brought to ‘Satisfaction,’ giving it that future bass twist,” said Dimond Saints.

The seasoned producers took a beat-driven approach on the rework, layering throbbing pads and droning bass notes beneath crisp hats and pointed snares. Hopscotch’s voice alternates between tightly coiled coos and lofty harmonies during distant brass breakdowns and arpeggiated chorus sections. Listen to the full premiere of Dimond Saints’ remix exclusively on CODE:

“Dimond Saints are deep school homies!” Hopscotch said. “I was so stoked to have them work on this remix, especially having worked on these originals with Releece as a producer. I really love watching these guys blow up this spring, and I’m super proud that they’re representing the ‘Archer EP’ so hard with this track.”

Hopscotch will release her “Archer EP & Remixes” this month, featuring additional remixes by Rex Riot, Sigrah, Sounds What, Jantsen & Dirtmonkey, Brooksbrown, Christopher Norman, and Champagne. - BILLBOARD

"Download this Bass-Quaking Remix of Hopscotch's "Red Sea""

Back in 2009 the younger, less hearing-impaired David Garber was all about having his face reconfigured to dirty, nasty dubstep anthems—many of which had these airy, euphoric female vocals sandwiched between the bone-shattering swells of bass. My college roommates probably thought I was ingesting Class A narcotics like they were chewy gummy vitamins. But then a year later everyone jumped on the bandwagon and was blasting everything from Skrillex to Flux Pavillion like it was Miley Cyrus. I let out a big "told ya so" and quickly graduated into the deeper waters of house and techno, leaving all the trend-chasers in my dust.

Then I opened my inbox a few days ago and there was this Jantsen & Dirt Monkey remix of LA vocalist and producer Hopscotch's track "Red Sea." I was quickly overtaken with bass-infused nostalgia and was forced out of my comfy desk chair into a hysterical state usually associated with my former, '09 self. Throw in some à la mode trap snares and festival synths and this full-on filthy track is like a forward-facing time machine for the womp-loving masses. My head is spinning.

"Premiere: Hopscotch’s ‘Black & White Horses’ Is a Mythical Equestrian Journey"

+
“This song and video are inspired by several long journeys galloping across the desert toward the pyramids in Giza, Egypt on horses with close friends,” Angela LaBaw, aka the Los Angeles-based musician and artist Hopscotch explains of her new “Black & White Horses.” It’s the quest of the lone warrior and traveler archetype, she says, “a reflection of the journey of a wild child. One who gets away from the dysfunction of the story of her life to simply go be in nature with horses, screaming, dancing, laughing, full freedom from those stories and their tendrils in her life.”

The action implied there is pushed back against by the slowed-down clips of horses galloping, and her own animal-like movements, not to mention the supine pace of the song’s shadowy edges.

There’s also something for Bronies to take delight in here, what the video’s director Cohen calls the first Unisus, or pegasus/unicorn to to be portrayed in cinema with live animals or humans. “I am the first director to portray the animal on screen, so to speak. This means that the ‘Hopscotch’ music video is actually a historical moment in the history of cinema.”

History in the making. “The only reference in pop culture to it is in the animated series ‘My Little Pony’ of which Celestia and Luna are rulers of Equestria in the series, i.e. royalty in the unicorn/pegasus universe.”

Also magical? LaBaw’s hair.

Back in our world, the video-shoot took on some magical overtones as well, LaBaw went on. “The making of it was absolutely surreal. We shot based around the timing of the full moon. Long days, hard work, there was a feeling that some kind of ceremonial space was being held for me out there. Everyone who was a part of the crew and cast kept saying our shoot was ‘meant to be.’ And it was. I could not have done something so beautiful and other time and space feeling without the amazing work of Cohen and all of the crew. The magic present on set the entire weekend, especially working with horses was very tangible, for example you see a ring of smoke that just happened from the sage. Nature’s FX.”

The song appears on Hopsctoch’s “Archer EP & Remixes”, out on May 6. Check out her recent “Red Sea” here. - BULLETT

"Premiere: Christopher Norman Remixes Hopscotch"

Los Angeles based Angela LaBaw is a fast rising producer/vocalist. For her latest project Hopscotch, she has recorded a new EP called Archer EP & Remixes. One of the tracks “Black & White Horses” gets the remix treatment from Austin-based producer Christopher Norman.

It features the silky and absorbing vocals of LaBaw laid over spacious low-tempo electro-pop synths, with chill and steady glitch-hop drum rhythms. This is soothing, cruise-control driver music at its best.

You can stream the track here and get it as part of the EP release on May 6. - VIBE

"Blackbook Premiere: Hopscotch- 'Red Sea'"

Close your eyes. Imagine yourself far away from the frozen chill of winter. Picture yourself floating through the warm air, sinking into pleasurable feeling. And with the new track “Red Sea” from Hopscotch, her sensual and transcendent voice allows you to dive head first into the sonic world far from your own. As the latest work from Los Angeles-based voice artist Angela LaBaw, the formally trained performer and producer creates a sound that washes over you with euphoric and tender sensation, as you cannot help but keep playing it on loop again and again.

Speaking to “Red Sea,” LaBaw tells us:

I was hiking from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia and saw a red algae bloom that a 70-year-old man who lived there his whole life told me he’d never seen happen before. As I sat there under an angel tombstone that day, this song came to me. The lyric ‘rubies falling from the sky’ speaks to Close your eyes. Imagine yourself far away from the frozen chill of winter. Picture yourself floating through the warm air, sinking into pleasurable feeling. And after the release of her 2013 EP Emotion Remixes, now LaBaw will be gifting us with Archer EP & Remixes, droppinig on May 6th. The EP will feature four original tracks, paired with remixes by such names as Rex Riot, Sigrah, Dimond Saints, Sounds What, Jantsen & Dirtmonkey, Brooksbrown, Christopher Norman, and Champagne.

So today, we’re pleased to share Hopscotch’s “Red Sea” with you exclusively here on BlackBook. I’d suggest turning on those Christmas lights hanging on your wall, lying down, and really letting this one come to life. - BLACKBOOK

"PREMIERE: Hopscotch – “Hunter In The Night (Sigrah Remix)”"

Oakland’s Hopscotch is an artist that we’re familiar with. She’s an amazing singer-songwriter with a knack for finding ridiculous artists to remix her work. Back in October, we premiered a remix of a record called “Emotion” by Minnesota producer Champagne, and she’s back again with a three-track EP that features D.C.’s Rex Riot and Kansas City’s Sigrah. The latter is a melodic chill wave tune that is simply undeniable. The full release is available right here if you wish, but our focus is dead set on this Sigrah remix. It’s incredible, and available for free download. Snag it up! - DO ANDROIDS DANCE?

"DO ANDROIDS DANCE? PREMIERE: Hopscotch – “Emotion (Champagne Remix)”"

This is absolutely beautiful. Hopscotch actually gave the original of “Emotion” away as a free download six months ago, and it did quite well considering it was pushed organically. And just as quickly as I question the logic in a remix package that’s rooted in one single from half a year past, I’m absolutely blown away. Remixed by Champagne, this is a more melodic and uplifting feel than the original, and the execution is perfect. You can tell in two seconds that each and every sound was meticulously placed. It’s spiritual and dreamy and pensive all at the same time, and I love it. The full remix EP will be available next Wednesday with contributions from Nonagon, Sweet Anomaly, Snackman, and ONE4ALL. We’re proud to call this one a Do Androids Dance exclusive. - DO ANDROIDS DANCE?

"Dubstep.net DL Exclusive Emotion by Hopscotch (ONE4ALL REMIX)"

"Future Garage Feature on Emotion by Hopscotch (Champagne Remix)"

Wow, we just love everything about this track. Champagne has definitely created an amazing remix of this Hopscotch original. The aptly titled 'Emotion' describes this perfectly in one word. - Future Garage .net

"INFINITY BEATS Hopscotch 'Emotion' Music Video"

Listening to this song just puts be in an euphoric state. Hearing the vocals of Hopscotch are just what I needed to hear today. Her soft melodic voice accompanied with some bass and a strong high hat is like listening to the flowing of the ocean. So beautiful. Haven't heard of her? Check her out on Twitter here. - Infinity Beats

"Fresh New Tracks Presents: Hopscotch Emotion Official Video"

HOPSCOTCH – EMOTION (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

POSTED BY MACH ON MAY 21, 2013

I love this song, ever since it came out a few months ago it has been listened to almost every day and it is not even close to getting old for me. Hopscotch released the official music video today and knowing the track as I do, I had high expectations. Those expectations were met then passed, never ceasing to make you feel the incredible emotion that this song is. The video itself is hot, steamy black and white with a little bit of witchcraft. If you haven’t downloaded this song yet, I highly recommend it.

"FAVORITE ARTIST WITH THE MOST UNIQUE SOUND"

FAVORITE ARTIST WITH THE MOST UNIQUE SOUND: I can honestly say I’ve never heard anyone who sounds quite like the lovely and talented Anahata Sound. Pairing tribal melodies with her own dynamic vocals (or layering sounds to create beautiful instrumentals), she creates a world of rhythms too inviting to pass up. I also have a soft spot for artists with a cause greater than themselves and this perfectly describes Anahata. She has used her ample experience teaching Qi Gong to both practice with and council incarcerated youth, and just released a track for free DL out of her new project, HOPSCOTCH, in dedication to at-risk kids. I can say from my own experience she is a kind heart and a beautiful soul, in addition to being the most unique talent I’ve heard this year. - The Gypsy Diaries

"TuneCrush: Anahata Sound Heavens Choir (feat. Killah Priest, J.Human, and Benny Green)"

This track is hypnotic. Lacing the deliberate speech of Wu-Tang Clan’s, Killah Priest, and J. Human on a twisting and turning piano performance by jazz artist, Benny Green; it’s like sweet sauce on noodles. The production, the project, and the group, Anahata Sound, dedicates their work the peoples of the First Nation. Travel back to travel forward and enjoy the ride. - Tune Crush

"Symbiosis | 09.18 - 09.20 | Yosemite Friday Top 3"

Anahata Sound rocked her Friday mid-afternoon Forest Stage set, coaxing the audience closer and closer towards the front of the stage as her performance took flight. Singing, dancing and sequencing throughout the set, the adorably quirky Anahata proudly maintained the attention of all while progressing through original arrangements. Her voice harbors a whispery calm as peaceful and gentle as a resting infant on a warm afternoon. When addressing her assemblage, she legitimately connects, offering humorous small talk as if we were all old friends catching up. Adorned in a fur cap, lens-less glasses and rose blush dotted cheeks, Anahata's sound was like a big loving bear hug, squeezing us all.

Bio

If you’ve paid any attention to West Coast based indie pop & EDM the past few years, then you’re bound to have heard Hopscotch. This LA based, former Oaklander, has had a monster year for releases. Vibe Magazine calls her a “fast rising producer / vocalist”. As she readies herself to tour, she’s poised to reshape the landscape and prove that the new concert space is not just a boys game, that female vocals belong (beyond features and the occasional epic festival breakdown), that Hopscotch brings the same level of stage intensity and crushing DJ / Producer / Vocalist set to any EDM or indie pop concert setting.

Having built a repertoire of 34 released songs over 2 albums and 2 EPs, Hopscotch is the latest moniker of Angela LaBaw, formerly known as Anahata Sound. Hopscotch’s most recent release, the “Archer EP & Remixes” has made some serious waves in the EDM blogosphere this Spring with features from SPIN, Billboard, Vice’s Thump, Vibe, Bullet, and Do Androids Dance, just to name a few. With over 180K plays on her Jantsen & Dirtmonkey remix for “Red Sea”, and several others over 10K plays, her Soundcloud page has exploded of late and her pipeline of recent and relevant material is over the top. She also received critical acclaim from Bullet Magazine for her most recent music video for “Black & White Horses”.

With international touring experience as Hopscotch or Anahata Sound, and coming off of Coachella’s Do Lab stage for 2014, Hopscotch brings a veteran understanding of performance with a fresh project and growing fan base hungry to see her show live.

Hopscotch has a vault of material coming together for late Summer and Fall 2014. Follow Hopscotch at her Soundcloud, Facebook, or Twitter to get the latest on that. To book Hopscotch reach out to management, Britton Kimler, at brittonkimler@gmail.com today.
