"Notably, their performance was one of the rare occasions when a band mentions to the audience that they are 'welcome to dance' and the audience actually takes them up on the offer pulling back tables and chairs to create space."

Review (from Empire State Brewfest July 2009):“…at the end of the evening, dancers in front of the main stage were equally intoxicated by the pure vocals and strings from Oneonta band The Horseshoe Lounge Playboys…. and the level of joy cranked ever higher as the bluegrass-and-more fivesome worked its way to their closer.." Bio
The Horseshoe Lounge Playboys are a five piece acoustic band that love delivering high energy live performances. Unafraid of merging their singing voices with solid instrumentation, a synergy with the audience is what sets them apart. A diverse blend of sound that resonates with anyone who digs bluegrass, jambands, old time or traditional country.
The History: The whole thing started out as an acoustic duet focused on strong vocals. Three years later and three band members stronger, the band is now a five-piece, five-vocalist powerhouse. With an ever expanding musical pallete and an ever deepening bag of tricks this band cooks in high gear, yet isn't afraid to bring it down and get soulful. A solid repetoire of original songs and tasteful, if obscure, covers.
Members include:
Will Lunn- Will made his name playing mandolin with The High Street Boys and The Sultans of Swing. He claims to hold the record for the most appearances at the equally infamous and glorious Rooney Mountain Festival. He has shared the stage with such greats as Arnie Solomon, Tony Trishka, and David Bromberg.
Randy Miritello- Randy brings his natural charm to an easy stage presence along with rousing vocals and solid guitar picking. Influences range from Appalachin old time to Bakersfield country. Musical friendships include Old Crow Medicine Show members Ketch Secor, Critter Fuqua and Willie Watson, to name a few.
Darin Trass - Darin climbed on board the HLP express in Oct of 08 after a fateful meeting at a show we did for the City of Oneonta Concert series. His fiddle style fell right in with the music and has been such a natural fit, it's hard to remember what things sounded like before him. Darin also appears with regional favorites Fetish Lane and The Rabble Rousers.
Sam Doyle- HLP sealed the deal when their youngest (and possibly brightest) member fell into place. When Sam left Harvard to pursue his love for music, how could he know what was in store? Sam has been involved in numerous bands including Cliff Street, Slinky Tripp, Barefoot Sunrise, and George Kilby Jr. and the Road Dogs. His smooth, rock steady beat is where we get our groove.
Chris Watrous (acoustic bass) joined the band in December 2009. Chris based in Ithaca, NY and has performed with numerous bands in the area, most recently with Hee Haw Nightmare.
