Hosha

Formed in 2018, Hosha came together originally for a multimedia concert. In the corridors of Kask Conservatorium in Gent, this project started combining animation loops with live free improvised music. Eventually, the improvised material was organized in compositions, combining pre-orgainized material with semi-free improvisation.

The idea thickens and the quartet deepens into the concept, researching possibilities of sound, grooves, interactions up to the task to tell a story: a music journey with a few pre-agreed check-points in which any possible way could be taken to connect them.

Hosha explores the unusual formation of tenor and alto saxophones, Warre van de Putte and Werend Van Den Bossche, electric guitar by Nicolas Van Belle and drums/percussion by Marcos Della Rocha to search for a particular way to play Contemporary Jazz. The compositions are very much inspired by traditional masters such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane with big influence of modern exponents like Dave Holland, Brian Blade and The Fellowship Band, Omer Avital, Avishai Cohen, and Ari Hoenig. At the same time, the improvisation side is greatly inspired in the works of Bobo Stenson, Jim Black, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, Jakob Bro, Dan Weiss, among many others.

Currently, the quartet is busy promoting their first EP, “Hosha”. On stage in the most known places in Gent and Flandres, De Minard, Hot Club du Gand, KASK cinema, CC De Ververij (Ronse), Hosha aimes to broad their performances at festivals and venues over Belgium as well around Europe.
