BandAlternativeSinger/Songwriter

Multiple award-winning songwriter/lyricist - CD track released! As a storyteller he is recognized for consistently tight lyrics. Inspired by experiences, uniquely real, which he crafts into narrative acoustic folk compositions with an edge. Even two life-threatening disabilities haven't stopped him!

Biography

Howard Pavane achieved his first commercial success as a singer-songwriter with the 2010 published release of his song "Together Forever". Howard is a multiple award-winning songwriter and lyricist whose inspirations come from real and imagined events and experiences. He creatively weaves these into narrative acoustic folk style compositions with an alternative edge. Howard’s talent as a storyteller is widely respected for consistently tight lyrical content.

Starting years ago with a rock band background, he has since toned down the arrangements to allow the power of his lyrics to take the lead. This restructuring is a direct result of the unusual circumstances leading to Howard's reentry into music - becoming disabled by Post-Polio and soon after by Guillain-Barre.

These progressive neurological conditions ended his career in construction as a project engineer. Fortunately however they started a new chapter in his life, one in which artistic creativity can flourish, enabling him to pursue his life long dream of songwriting. (Howard volunteers with Make-A-Wish to help sick children fulfill their dreams too.) These life changing experiences afford him a very unique and surprisingly positive perspective, which have greatly influenced his emotions as a person, songwriter and artist. As proof - all awards were won after becoming disabled!

Howard performs via the Island Songwriters Showcase (ISS), including songwriter circle sessions. He also plays gigs at small clubs, other venues and benefits. He works toward continually improving the craft of songwriting by taking on-line classes at SongU.com, attending conferences, seminars, songwriting circles and other events, such as the ASCAP Expo in Hollywood, CA and New York City.

His other songwriting goals include synch licensing, co-writing and licensing of his compositions to other artists. He is actively pursuing these avenues by networking (social and direct) and through organizations such as Sonicbids, Taxi and Broadjam.

Residing in scenic Long Island, New York, Howard writes and records at his home studio on piano, keyboards, acoustic guitars and whatever else he can get his hands on.

SMOKE AND FIRE

Written By: HOWARD PAVANE

VERSE
NO ONE’S PUMPING GASOLINE TONIGHT AT LOU’S GARAGE
WE'LL POLISH THE FENDERS UNTIL THEY’RE CLEAN ON THIS 1965 DODGE
THERE’S SOME FOOL AT THE EDGE OF TOWN
HE THINKS HE CAN RUN THIS MOTHER DOWN
WELL THERE’S GONNA’ BE SOME SMOKE AND FIRE TONIGHT

VERSE
GOT A FOUR-SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE AND A HOLLEY CARBURETOR
MAN YOU OUGHT TO SEE HER COME ALIVE WHEN I TOUCH THE ACCELERATOR
MUST THINK HE’S A HOT SHOT
BETTER GIVE IT EVERYTHING HE’S GOT
THERE’S GONNA' BE SOME SMOKE
THERE’S GONNA' BE SOME SMOKE AND FIRE
THERE’S GONNA’ BE SOME SMOKE AND FIRE TONIGHT

BRIDGE
I LIKE THE SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER
I LIKE THE SOUND OF GRINDING GEARS
WHILE OTHERS SEARCHED FOR LOVERS
I FOUND MINE BEHIND THE WHEEL
DON’T IT SEEM LIKE SUMMER NIGHTS
WE’D MAKE LOVE BY THE PARKING LIGHTS

CHORUS
WE WERE SMOKE AND FIRE
SMOKE AND FIRE
FOR THAT QUARTER MILE
SMOKE AND FIRE
WE WERE SMOKE AND FIRE
SMOKE AND FIRE
FOR THAT QUARTER MILE
JUST SMOKE AND FIRE

INSTRUMENTAL

VERSE
HE MUST THINK HE’S A REAL HOT SHOT
BETTER GIVE IT EVERYTHING HE’S GOT
THERE’S GONNA' BE SOME SMOKE
THERE’S GONNA' BE SOME SMOKE AND FIRE
THERE’S GONNA’ BE SOME SMOKE AND FIRE TONIGHT

BRIDGE
I THINK I HEAR A DISTANT SIREN
I THINK I SEE APPROACHING LIGHTS
WHOA, IT’LL BE A TIE THEN
AS WE STEAL OFF INTO THE NIGHT
DON’T IT SEEM LIKE YESTERDAY
WE’D REV IT UP WHEN WE GET AWAY

CHORUS
WE WERE SMOKE AND FIRE
SMOKE AND FIRE
FOR THAT QUARTER MILE
SMOKE AND FIRE
WE WERE SMOKE AND FIRE
SMOKE AND FIRE
FOR THAT QUARTER MILE
JUST SMOKE AND FIRE

MY NEIGHBORHOOD

MY NEIGHBRHOOD
writer: HOWARD PAVANE

CHORUS
NOTHING EVER REALLY CHANGES
EVERYTHING REMAINS THE SAME
HOW VERY STRANGE
FROM DAY TO DAY
FROM YEAR TO YEAR
MY LIFE GOES ON IN THE SAME WAY
RIGHT HERE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

VERSE
THINGS WERE DIFFERENT THEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
EVERYBODY WAS YOUR FRIEND IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
AT NIGHT WE’D NEVER LOCK OUR DOORS
WE’D LEAVE THEM OPEN
EVEN THOUGHT THE LIGHT ON THE PORCH WAS BROKEN
IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

VERSE
THINGS WERE DIFFERENT THEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
IT NEVER REALLY MATTERED WHEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
WE’D TAKE OUR TIME TO DO IT RIGHT
SO DON’T YOU WORRY
AND IF YOU FIND IT TAKES ALL NIGHT
WELL WHAT’S THE HURRY, ANYWAY

BRIDGE
I CAN FEEL THE AIR
I FEEL IT CALLING ME
RIGHT BACK TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD
I CAN FEEL THE AIR
I FEEL IT CALLING ME
RIGHT BACK TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD

VERSE
THINGS WERE DIFFERENT THEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
WE WERE KIDS WE WOULD PRETEND IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
THAT WE WERE SOLDIERS OFF TO WAR FIGHTING BATTLES
MAYBE COWBOYS SITTING TALL IN OUR SADDLES
IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

VERSE
THINGS WERE DIFFERENT THEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
WE’D HANG OUT AT THE FIVE AND TEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
WE’D GET MALTEDS WE’D GET FRIES AND WE’D GET CRAZY
IT’S NOT MY FAULT IF WE’D GET HIGH AND WE’D GET LAZY

BRIDGE
NO NO NO NO

I CAN FEEL THE AIR
I FEEL IT CALLING ME
RIGHT BACK TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD
I CAN FEEL THE AIR
I FEEL IT CALLING ME
RIGHT BACK TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD

CHORUS
NOTHING EVER REALLY CHANGES
EVERYTHING REMAINS THE SAME
HOW VERY STRANGE
FROM DAY TO DAY
FROM YEAR TO YEAR
MY LIFE GOES ON IN THE SAME WAY
RIGHT HERE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

VERSE
YES THINGS WERE DIFFERENT THEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
THERE WERE NO FASHIONS NO TRENDS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD
A FLANNEL SHIRT AND JEANS WAS ALL YOU NEEDED
NO ONE WAS HURT OR MEAN OR CONCEITED
IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

BRIDGE
I FEEL IT CALLING ME
CALLING ME
RIGHT BACK TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD

CHORUS
NOTHING EVER REALLY CHANGES
EVERYTHING REMAINS THE SAME
HOW VERY STRANGE
FROM DAY TO DAY
FROM YEAR TO YEAR
MY LIFE GOES ON IN THE SAME WAY

DEVASTATED LAND

Written By: HOWARD PAVANE

VERSE 1:

WE WERE STANDING ON THE LEVEE, SKIMMING ROCKS AND GETTING STONED.

OUR EYES WERE GETTING HEAVY; WE’RE GETTING READY TO GO HOME.

YOU SAID THE WATER’S RISING, AND I FELT MY LEGS GO DOWN.

AND AS THE LEVEE CRUMBLED, WE BOTH TUMBLED TO THE GROUND,

IN THIS DEVASTATED LAND,

IN THIS DEVASTATED LAND.

VERSE 2:

WE HEARD A DOG BARKING, IN THE BRANCHES OF A TREE.

OUR NEIGHBOR’S ON THE SECOND FLOOR, THE WATER’S TO HER KNEES.

AIN’T THAT THE SCHOOLYARD, WHERE THE CHILDREN USED TO PLAY?

AND THE CHURCHES LOOK LIKE HOUSES, WITH THEIR STEEPLES WASHED AWAY,

IN THIS DEVASTATED LAND,

IN THIS DEVASTATED LAND.

REFRAIN:

THE STREETS HAD TURNED TO RIVERS,

AND THE RIVERS TURNED TO MUD.

I TURNED TO SEE YOU SHIVER,

YOU WERE DROWNING IN THE FLOOD.

I REACHED OUT TO GRAB YOU, AND YOU TOOK HOLD OF MY HAND.

AS THE WATER DRAGGED YOU, THROUGH THIS DEVASTATED LAND,

THIS DEVASTATED LAND,

THIS DEVASTATED LAND.

VERSE 3:

WE WAITED TO BE SAVED, IT WAS EVERYONE FOR THEMSELVES.

THE STORES HAD ALL BEEN LOOTED; THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE SHELVES.

WE WAITED FOR THE CHOPPERS; THERE WAS SILENCE IN THE AIR.

WE’RE LIVING IN THE USA AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE,

IN THIS DEVASTATED LAND,

IN THIS DEVASTATED LAND.

REFRAIN FINALE:

THE STREETS HAD TURNED TO RIVERS,

AND THE RIVERS TURNED TO MUD.

I TURNED TO SEE YOU SHIVER,

YOU WERE DROWNING IN THE FLOOD.

I REACHED OUT TO GRAB YOU, AND YOU TOOK HOLD OF MY HAND.

AS THE WATER DRAGGED YOU, THROUGH THIS DEVASTATED LAND,

THIS DEVASTATED LAND,

THIS DEVASTATED LAND.

TOGETHER, FOREVER (DARLIN' WON'T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME)

Written By: HOWARD PAVANE

VERSE 1:
WE’RE ON THE PORCH READING BOOKS,
EXCHANGING LOOKS LIKE WE WERE YOUNG.
WE SHARE A GLASS OF WHITE WINE,
WE’RE PASSING TIME, WAITIN’ FOR THE SETTING SUN.
WE’LL SIT BY THE FIREPLACE,
FEEL EACH OTHER’S WARM EMBRACE,
THERE AIN’T NO OTHER PLACE,
I WOULD RATHER BE.
REST YOUR HEAD UPON MY SHOULDER,
THE EMBERS DIE AND IT GETS COLDER,
AND YOU AND I WE GET OLDER,
I AIN’T TOO BLIND TO SEE.
DARLIN’ WON’T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME.

VERSE 2:
PLAYING GUITAR AND SINGING SONGS,
THE KEEPERS OF THE INN THEY SING ALONG.
WE’RE WAITING FOR THE EVENING BREEZE,
THE WINDS THEY WHISPER THE HARMONIES.
REST YOUR HEAD UPON MY SHOULDER,
THE EMBERS DIE AND IT GETS COLDER,
AND YOU AND I WE’RE GETTING OLDER,
I AIN’T TOO BLIND TO SEE.
DARLIN’ WON’T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME.

REFRAIN:
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, OR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
AND STORMY WEATHER.
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, OR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
THROUGH STORMY WEATHER.

VERSE 3:
AND NOW IT’S TIME TO GO TO BED,
I THINK OF ALL THINGS I SHOULD HAVE SAID.
WORDS DON’T REALLY MEAN A THING,
AS LONG AS YOU WEAR MY WEDDING RING.
REST YOUR HEAD UPON MY SHOULDER,
THE EMBERS DIE AND IT GETS COLDER,
AND YOU AND I WE GROW OLDER,
BUT I AIN’T TOO BLIND TO SEE.
DARLIN’ WON’T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME.

REFRAIN FINALE:
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, OR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
THROUGH STORMY WEATHER.
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, OR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
THROUGH STORMY WEATHER.

INTRO

THERE’S A BOWLING ALLEY AT THE EDGE OF TOWN
THEY’VE GOT A BAR AND A WHISKEY LOUNGE
WHEN THE PINS DROP YOU CAN’T HEAR A SOUND
BUT IT’S THE ONLY PLACE TO LAY MY MUSIC DOWN

AND IF I STAY I’LL NEVER BE A STAR
NO GOLD RECORDS WILL I WIN
I PACK MY TOOTHPASTE AND MY GUITAR
AND AN EXTRA SET OF STEEL WOUND STRINGS

CHORUS:
LET THE LIGHT, LET IT SHINE ON ME
LET THE LIGHT, LET IT SHINE ON ME
LET THE LIGHT, LET IT SHINE ON ME
OH SWEET LORD, SWEET LORD
LET THE LIGHT SHINE DOWN ON ME

IT TOOK A WHILE FOR FOLKS TO KNOW MY NAME
AND THEY SPELLED IT WRONG ON THE MARQUEE
BUT I DON’T MIND AS I TAKE CENTER STAGE
AND THEY SHINE THAT SPOTLIGHT DOWN ON ME

CHORUS
LET THE LIGHT, LET IT SHINE ON ME
LET THE LIGHT, LET IT SHINE ON ME
LET THE LIGHT, LET IT SHINE ON ME
OH SWEET LORD, SWEET LORD
LET THE LIGHT SHINE DOWN ON ME
