"Shari Ulrich"

“The classiest vocal group I've ever heard…the flawless vocals of each of these seasoned singers are loaded with unique character. Four truly great singers who magically blend into one inspiring sound…they exude a sheer joy in their performance that is wonderful to share. To my ear, it's what vocal music should be.” - Singer/Songwriter/Producer

"Paul Ryan"

“I love the cool jazz flavour of the Howe Sounds. With their tight vocal harmonies they weave a tapestry of contemporary pop standards and classic jewels of the swing era. Catch them live and I think you will agree - their performance is both infectious and wildly entertaining.” - Limelight Entertainment

"Ian Putz"

“An unusually gifted group – not only are they solid both technically and artistically, but they are also extremely entertaining! Equally at home with jazz, pop, doo-wop and show standards, they exude an infectious enthusiasm for all styles through their eclectic performances. Not just entertainment; more than simply vocal acrobatics; Howe Sounds delivers professionalism and joy in equal measure. Check them out!” - Composer/Producer

"Vancouver Sun"

"Howe Sounds - equally swingacious on stage or disks!" - Canwest Media

"Miles Black"

"Howe Sounds is such a creative, focused and entertaining vocal ensemble, capable of making the most joyous music. A very charismatic and dynamically versatile outfit!" - Composer/Producer/Performer

"Spider Robinson"

“The very best horns sound like a human voice, and the very best voices have the purity and power of a good horn. Monique Creber's voice is Stan Getz's saxophone: honey and warm butterscotch poured over the tip of an iceberg on a starry summer night.” - Author

"Globe and Mail"

“Slinky, sultry and really sensational…Angela Kelman infused some breathy bossa nova into Donald Black and Mark London's To Sir With Love…” - Globe and Mail

"The Georgia Straight"

“Maddock’s got a suede-smooth, toffee-sweet voice…” - Colin Thomas

"The Province"

“Steve is one of Vancouver’s finest jazz singers… what a great voice!”

- Canwest Media

Bio

A hot Vancouver-based vocal group comprised of Monique Creber, Angela Kelman, Steve Maddock and David Steele, Howe Sounds is known for its lush harmonies, rich, layered arrangements and dynamic stage presence.

In addition to their broad repertoire of original songs, Howe Sounds performs popular material from the 1940s to the present. From classic pop and jazz to bossa nova, Brazilian jazz and gospel …Howe Sounds does it all with flair. The common thread? Polished ensemble singing interspersed with dynamic solo performances.

Howe Sounds brings together four accomplished professional vocalists, each with an impressive musical track record in his or her own right. Collectively and individually they have performed and recorded with a wide range of renowned pop and jazz musicians, including Susan Aglukark, The Rankin Family, Cher, The Nylons, Dee Daniels, Raffi, Farmer’s Daughter, Norman Foote, Little Caesar, Shari Ulrich, Valdy, Bill Coon, Denzel Sinclaire and Kenny Werner. As a group their easy chemistry and warm, humorous stage presence never fail to charm audiences, and leave them wanting more!

Since the group’s formation in December 2001, Howe Sounds has performed to great acclaim as featured guests in The Magic of Christmas at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre (Vancouver), the Centennial Theatre (North Vancouver) and the Centrepointe Theatre (Ottawa) and has been a popular attraction at Canada Day festivities and West Vancouver’s Concerts By the Sea, as well as at private parties and corporate events. The group has also appeared on Shaw TV’s Urban Rush and on the nationally broadcast Vicki Gabereau Show (CTV).

Howe Sounds performs with a variety of accompaniments ranging from solo piano to large band – with musical director and virtuoso piano/keyboardist Michael Creber.
