"Huddle's Elusive Fires"

Huddle does this well. In the first listen of All These Fires, the Toronto indie-pop quartet provides a bounce and step with the first song, "Islands," but gives way to more deeper and darker melodies. "Sleepwalker" is written about a sleep disorder. Influences of The Smiths come out in the third song, "Brow-line Pictures," and the fourth track, "Dark Times," is coupled with a haunting female vocalist. - Interrobang

"All These Fires Album Review"

Huddle, a Toronto-based indie-pop ensemble, has recently released a promising debut album. All These Fires gathers together a fiery hot collection of 10 catchy rock ’n’ roll songs interspersed with a vintage sound reminiscent of ’80s synth-pop, along with an homage to an obvious fan-based fascination to old-school video games among other apparent influences. It works well. - Fast Forward Music

"Exclaim.ca Reviews All These Fires"

"Islands," the first blast of indie pop from Toronto, ON group Huddle, was stunning in both its succinctness and ability to burrow into your ears for days on end. - Exclaim.ca

"SoundBites: All These Fires (Album Review)"

This album sounds like it should be the background track for a really long car commercial – it’s just that right mix of mellow and catchy that brings to mind the way landscapes flash by through the window. Their style isn’t minimalist, but it’s clean – although there are three or four instruments playing at all times, there isn’t much distortion, which lends to the songs the kind of simplicity that generally comes from more minimalist ensembles. They also know when to pull back and let one instrument carry the tune, which serves as a powerful hook to draw the listeners in. Huddle has mastered how to slow a song down and then build it up again to hammer a line home. As Mark Satterthwaithe sings in the final line of the final track after one such build up, “I’m your makeshift man / you don’t see me right.” I’m not sure what this means, but they make it sounds so intense that I’ve just got to believe it. - The Cascade

"A Trio of Canadian Talent Takes to the Horseshoe Tavern Stage (Show Review)"

But at their best, they deftly weave shimmering guitar lines with some honest-to-goodness organic synth tones, wrapped in songs that stay in your head long after you’ve heard them. They were easily the best act of the night. - Cadence Magazine

"An Interview with Mark Satterthwaite of Huddle"

Cadence recently had the opportunity to chat with Mark Satterthwaite, the lead singer of the indie-pop group Huddle. Fresh off the release of their first full-length LP, All These Fires, in September, the Toronto quartet – rounded off by lead guitarist Clay Jones, bassist Dave Lucas, and drummer Teddy Wilson – is currently riding a surging wave of popularity and praise and is poised to make its mark on Canadian music. Blending a fresh indie-rock sound with lucid melodies and an incomparable groove, Huddle’s first album was met with universal acclaim by fans and critics alike, so it would seem the only place for the band to go is up. - Cadence Magazine

"BlogTO’s Neighbourhood Mix Tape SEPT 04 2011"

Huddle released their debut LP All These Fires this week, and there's a real sincerity and sharpness to the album. "Dark Times" throbs and lets go of any doubts. And the more you listen to the question lead singer Mark Satterthwaite harkens in the song, the more it feels and sounds right. - BlogTO

"BlogTO’s Neighbourhood Mix Tape FEB 27 2011"

It's time to break out of our sluggish habits as the end of February nears. You listen to Huddle's synth-driven "Islands" while you look for your running shoes and shorts. The two-minute track gains momentum as drums kick and guitars hover over Mark Satterthwaite's vocals, signalling transition. - BlogTO

"Weekends at the cottage inspire Huddle's All These Fires (Interview)"

Inspired by countless weekends spent composing songs at a cottage in Georgian Bay, Ontario, vocalist Mark Satterthwaite and guitarist Clay Jones – who first met writing film and television scores – recruited bassist Dave Lucas and drummer Teddy Wilson (also a host on the Space channel) to form indie rock outfit, Huddle. Together, the foursome slowly turned their passion project into LP, All These Fires, and proudly released it this past summer. Their quirky video for upbeat single Islands – which is already garnering attention – marks the beginning of what Satterthwaite hopes will be many serendipitous collaborations and fiery, confident performances. - April Robinson

"A Journal of Musical Things: I Like This - HUDDLE"

Arty indie pop from a five-piece Toronto who released their debut album, All These Fires today. Extremely catchy. And grab the guilt-free download of "Islands." - Alan Cross

"Exclaim.ca Click Hear FEB 22 2011"

Huddle are a four-piece indie rock band based in Toronto, but with deep roots in the Georgian Bay, ON. Singer guitarist Mark Satterthwaite and guitarist Clay Jones cut their teeth writing film and television scores before forming the group in 2008, recruiting Teddy Wilson on drums and David Lucas on bass the following year. Their first single “Islands” is “and always will be, about Georgian Bay,” according to a statement from the band.

It’s one of the catchiest indie pop tunes to grace ears in some time, propelled by a pulsing piano line and Satterthwaite’s soulful vocals. And just as it hits its peak, the track is over, leaving you begging for more.

The band will drop their six-track Fault Lines EP later this spring, hopefully with gigs to follow. - Exclaim.ca
