Bio
Hue Hef aka Huey
Hip Hop Artist Hue Hef (aka Huey) made an impressive entrance in the music industry with his 2007 Platinum hit Pop, Lock & Drop It. This catchy single, produced by Calvin Miller and D'andre Po-po Smith, peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Rap Songs, #6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and #10 on the New Zealand Singles Chart. This hit also caught the attention of rapper Bow Wow and R&B singer T-Pain who were featured on the remix. The video received an overwhelming response on BETs 106 & Park, MTV, and YouTube with over 15 million views.
His latest single, Tonight was recently released on his new indie label, Rock Bottom Music Group (R.B.M.G.).
Hue Hef (aka Huey) began his career at age 15 in St. Louis, Missouri. His success on various mixtapes led him to producer TJ Chapman (manager of Hip Hop Artist B.o.B) who introduced him to Former Vice-President of A&R at Jive Records, Mickey Memphitz Wright in 2006.
It was crazy! Hue Hef (aka Huey) explains. We pushed that single (Pop, Lock & Drop It) on the ground for almost three years before it took off. We were in the club doing shows, passing out flyers, and the next thing you know, things started happening and one thing led to another.
Hitz Committee/Jive released his debut album, Notebook Paper in 2007. This project included the single When I Hustle featuring R&B singer Lloyd, and earned over 1 million views on YouTube. His 2010 sophomore project Redemption, included the single Smile and Wave featuring rapper Dorrough (Ice Cream Paint Job).
His upcoming projects include a 16-track mixtape, Project H, which Huey promises to be all original bangers. It features St. Louis based production by Nemesis, J-Mil, EV, and PYP (Play Your Part Productions). Slated to release March 14, 2014 (314 day in St. Louis)
Hue Hef admits that the success of collaborations can sometimes cause an artist to lose their identity, but promises that listeners will get to know him this time as an individual.
My fans will be surprised, he explains. Im hungry and Ive gotta give them good music because thats what theyre expecting.
