Huey Smith

On December 20, 1981, Rita Smith welcomed into this world her precious baby boy Huey J. Smith at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. This multitalented singer, songwriter, producer and music engineer started singing at the tender age of six years old. Coming from a family of singers this only seemed natural! At his first solo performance, he sang “Tomorrow” by the Winans, which he instantly embraced the destiny the lord had for his life.

Although, his foundation was in the church at the age of 17 he was part of an R&B group. The group participated in several talent competitions and gained a great deal of recognition throughout the Dekalb county area in Atlanta. One morning, he was awakened by the voice of God telling him “Choose ye this day whom shall you serve”. His reply was “You lord, all day.” Ironically, within minutes, his telephone rang and one of his group members informed him that they were offered a recording contract from a major record company. He was thrilled to receive the great news but informed the members that he could no longer remain in the group because they were not on the same path spiritually. Of course, he was faced with much criticism from his group members but there was no persuading him from singing God’s praises.

When Huey reverted strictly to gospel music, God not only blessed him with a powerful voice but also bestowed unto him the gift to write lyrics. When he would listen to beats, words flowed naturally from his head and he began to write down the words that God placed in his mind and heart. This gift expanded and developed his love for music with a higher appreciation, which lead him to explore other ventures within the industry such as producing and music engineering. It was truly obvious then, that he made the right decision to serve the Lord.

In November of 2008, Huey participated in the 2008 Divine Rising Star gospel singing competition. Mr. Smith was selected as the grand prizewinner, which consisted of a cash award. This marked the beginning of his official gospel career! Through his music, Huey would like his target audience to be in the group range of 15 to 35 years old however; he prays that his music blesses all age groups. His number one mission is to show his peers that God can be glorified and not compromised when listening to music no matter what age range you belong too. He feels that the children are the future and should be able to listen to music that they can enjoy, dance to, encourage them and relate too. Huey would like to be the next force in this industry and he is going to take it by STORM with the love of God in the mix of it all!
