Biography

The Human Soundtrack’s musical influences are harvested from vinyl, cassettes, and discs alike, dipping into whatever comprises its members' audial intake. This pastiche of blues, folk, pop, alternative, punk and the touchstone rock form unique, undeniably catchy tunes and dense, defined soundscapes. After warming up and tightening a sound in various confining rented rooms around the city of St. John’s, The Human Soundtrack began to play their music in front of real, live people in the winter of 2006. The following autumn they performed at the Music NL showcase in Stephenville and have since shared the stage with bands such as Trailer Camp, Hey Rosetta! and Halifax's Down With the Butterfly. Since their first gig, the band has been playing rigorously for 365 days or so promoting their 7 song EP and working on their new album - "Organs for Sale" set for release on February 29th.

Allthosestaringpeople

Allthosestaringpeople

I was alone
I was fighting with the bad guys
All of those monsters in their business suits and ties
All of those people staring at me with their eyes
Weren’t there
So carry on you’re impressing only shadows
They’re on thin ice and there is nowhere left to go
It doesn’t matter if there’s nowhere left to go

Now it is time
For you to come to terms
With who is walking round your mind
How can you shake
The hands of the imaginary audience you’ve made

I was alone
I was coping with the sad times
The monster in the mirror practicing his lines
The mirror that never reflects the warning signs
Or fears
So carry on everybody’s doing the same
They’re trapped behind the neural caging of their brains
It doesn’t matter if they’re trapped, it’s all inane

Now it is time
For you to come to terms
With who is walking round your mind
How can you shake
The hands of the imaginary audience you’ve made
All of these people that you have created

Babies are the New Pursedogs

Written By: Stephen Haley

Babies are the New Pursedogs

We didn’t know that
We were underachieved overachievers
Without hearts on our sleeves
So I wore my lungs to the royal ball
But the cab got lost, ended up at the nursery

We treat our wounds at the animal vet
Bandage our memories before we forget
How to dress ourselves
Plant a seed that we don’t take care of
Abandon at the nursery

At the nursery where it’s cold and damp
Raising youngsters under shared heat lamps
Until the summer steps aside for the frigid frost of the Winter
Where life can barely grow tiny fingers
Pushing through the snow
That has buried all of the unborn and newly sown

Don’t feed your enemies children to him
Let them start crawling
Until they walk and they swim and they play with fire
Light the eaves that burn to ashes
Burning down the nursery

We treat our wounds at the animal vet
Bandage your memory before you forget
Before you forget everything you've seen

The Other Beasts

Written By: Stephen Haley

The Other Beasts

I saw them through the big frond leaves
In the jungle with the other beasts
So I crawled in hoping to make a friend
But they weren’t having none of it

Now it’s too late
I can’t stop
My hand shakes
I think it’s time to leave

They saw me as I began to move away
And much to my dismay they’re on my tracks
They’re close behind and in my peripheral eye
And it’s now plain to see that they’re on my back

The air
Is much different in here
Say the creatures
In the trees
But now it’s too late
I can’t stop
My hand shakes
I think it’s time to leave
