HUMDINGER:
Everyone is guilty of this. Your anticipation of something is so high, that once it gets there, there is no possible way it can live up to expectations and you’re let down. I was worried this would be the problem with the release of Humdinger’s self-titled release…I’m relieved that wasn’t a problem.

The California based band is a culmination of all of it’s influences; Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, Led Zeppelin, etc…they have mixed it all together to come up with their own authentic sound. It’s very much Americana; a little country, a little rock…just right there in the middle. Their songs vary from traditional folk, complete with mandolin, to the more southern rock feel. It’s very raw and organic, and for people who are bored with the so-called “country” music that is out now, they will definitely enjoy what this band has brought to the table. All the songs on the release are very well written and arranged. One of the stand-out songs is Mr. Sam, The song explores what happens when a big corporation moves into a small town and takes over. Another outstanding track is Thumbin’.

Vocalist, Eamon Ryland’s gravelly voice adds depth and soul to the amazing ballad. Motorbike paints a great picture of the free spirit and life behind the wheel. Humdinger can play the fast rocking tracks and then turn around and play the slow ballads while avoiding all the major pitfalls that people usually associate with a country album. Definitely a stellar debut from a band with great promise.
