"New Band Smell : Hunters"

These urchins are 1/2 of Hunters, a fledgling unit of NYC-based neo-no wave scuzpoppers who make their fore-bearers in bands like Teenage Jesus and The Jerks sound like purveyors of smooth jazz. Please, I say that only because I love.

What these kids lack in facial hair and legal imbibing, they more than make up for white-hot pokers masquerading as pop songs and famous friends. How else can one explain A-listers like James Iha and Nick Zinner lending a hand to the band’s name-your-price self-titled EP?

The EP is a no-brainer for your mobile music unit, but if Hunters give you bad touch, and you’re hoping for something a little more tangible, a couple of tracks from the EP are available on split 7-inch with Montreal’s Dead Wife. Whattaya waiting for, an invitation? - MOKB

"The Brookyln-based boys & girls get guidance from YYY's Nick Zinner for their upcoming release"

Brooklyn's Hunters are onto something. Their music is charged with wild energy led by singers/guitarists Derek Watson and Isabel Ibsen. Mixing boy/girl harmonies with super catchy guitars, their songs tend to get stuck in your head before you even finish listening to them. Somewhere along the way they got with Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs who mixed their upcoming EP, and former Smashing Pumpkin James Iha on the production end. The result is exactly what you would expect. Well, maybe not... think The Vaselines on a wonderfully chaotic acid binge. - Dazed and Confused

"Hunters' Bubblegum-Sludge Anthem "Deadbeat""

Brooklyn bubblegum-sludge bashers Hunters are the bastard children of Lollapalooza 1996, a perfect blend of Boss Hog cheer and Melvins churn. Led by co-frontscrungers Isabel Ibsen and Derek Watson, the band is a decidedly Brooklynite version of bands like Jucifer or Lullabye Arkestra, with melodies that lean towards the kiwi and twee, chilly attitudes over broiling guitars, and noise breakdowns that sound like trash being hauled. Their four-track digital EP, simply called Hunters, is available now at a handy name-your-price on their BandCamp site; opening track "Deadbeat" is also available as a stand-alone single on a just-released split 7-inch with Montreal's Dead Wife via Brooklyn label Swill Children. The track (produced by James Iha!) is a two-and-half-minute workout of caveman drumming, a gloriously plodding two-note riff, and the joyous muck-riot of vintage Babes in Toyland. - Village Voice

Bio

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY and led by the duo singers/guitarists, Derek Watson and Isabel Ibsen, their sound is at once heavy and concurrently accessible. This four piece mixes boy/girl harmonies with catchy guitars, and their songs tend to get stuck in your head before you even finish listening to them. Somewhere along the way they got with Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs to mix their upcoming EP. Their current release was just put out by Swill Children records.
