Bio

Don't let Hunting Grounds’ youthful, hyperactive posturing distract you from the indisputable truth that this is one special troupe of boys. The sound is frenetic, all weighty keys and thumping beats. The just-abrasive-enough alternating vocals of yelping Lachlan Morrish and commanding Michael Belsar are the perfect combination of reckless imagination.

Hunting Grounds announced their arrival as HOWL in the annals of triple j’s Unearthed High as winners back in 2009. The discordant disco-punk of Blackout was the bands introduction to the wiles of greater recognition, and the gritty charming sextet have been hurling their lithe frames at stages and studios with equally desperate fervor ever since. The (then) eponymous EP Howl (featuring Blackout) was birthed in February 2009. A $21 video for the infectious Anyone But Us even knocked weeny Justin Bieber from Channel [V]’s Most Requested Video spot in mid-2010. Then, somehow these rambunctious newcomers managed to take things up a notch with their Brothers in Violence EP. With its September 2010 release, triple j picked up first single Cabin Fever and promptly gave it the appropriate hammering of airplay. The band then embarked on the kind of touring schedule hardened veterans wince at, let alone a unit of rabble-rousing 19 year olds.

The energetic abandon that pervades Hunting Grounds’ wild live incarnation is the kind of thing that inspires nudity and table dancing. Ain’t nothing like a band enjoying themselves, and these friends are having so much that their cheeky grins risk splitting in a rock’n’roll tribute to The Joker. They’ve shocked and eventually stolen the wayward hearts of audiences at festive staples Stereosonic, Groovin’ the Moo, Field Day & Queensliff Music Festival. Hunting Grounds have held their own on shared stages with Children Collide, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Grinspoon & Die! Die! Die! This bands live chops are bloody with the fervor of new audiences, dripping with rampant enthusiasm and eager for more.

Best of all, this is the beginning. With a debut album on the horizon and an unquenchable desire to perform live, there’s no telling where this is all going. Suffice it to say it will be somewhere just as loud and unpredictable as Hunting Grounds themselves.
