"Husbands & Wives Interview"

“We’re all big music geeks, so nothing is off limits,” said Marc Dottavio, vocalist-bassist for Husbands & Wives, when asked about his band’s musical influences.
“To name a few, The Beatles, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and The Pixies have definitely influenced my songwriting,” he said. “We have an indie sensibility, but we appreciate well-crafted pop as much as abrasive rock.”
In celebration of their debut CD, “Prepare To Meet Thy God,” Husbands & Wives will appear in concert Saturday night at downtown Canton’s Buzzbin Art & Music Shop. The band’s songs, written by Dottavio, are dynamic, driving and loaded with clever melodies and solid pop hooks.

"Husbands & Wives Deliver Debut"

Husbands & Wives have been creating local buzz the past few years as a hardworking and talented band with its finger on the pulse. These guys have a brand of indie rock that feels fresh and perfected, with an exciting fusion of Brit pop, alt rock and power pop that creates a sound all their own. After spending two years writing and rehearsing, their debut release, “Prepare To Meet Thy God,” perfectly captures the sound every up-and-coming band wishes to create. The album was a total do-it-yourself project, as band members Marc Dittavio, Tony Scarpitti, Kris Oprisch and Brian McCoy recorded, mixed and produced the disc themselves, and raised funds through a Kickstarter campaign. The album kicks off with the epic “Haven’t You Heard?” which is a wall of crashing sonic delights topped off with an intro of haunting church organs. Dottavio’s voice is sweet and sincere, with a curious punk- rock edge to it. The song slides right into “Evil Things,” a straightforward, melodic rock track that makes clever use of McCoy’s infamous hurdy-gurdy and some other puzzling instrumentation. “Lovely” is a standout, with a quiet-to-loud structure very reminiscent of Pixies but with a modern spin. “Already Gone” has the same effect, but features a surfy kind of guitar and breezy sound that proves no two songs are alike on this release. There’s no absence of catchy pop tracks to keep stuck in your head for days — “Cars and Hotel Rooms” and “Paul Newman” should take care of that — and the best part of the album is that in the 10-song compilation, there are no fluffy filler tracks, no songs to skip over as you search for your favorite. Every tune is a little different from the next, and you can pick out a whole slew of instruments that create the music mosaic, making the disc a true work of art. There is no doubt “Prepare To Meet Thy God” will be passed around from hand to hand, with a lot of passionate, “You gotta hear these guys!” in days to come. The album is top- notch, and it’s almost hard to believe that the music-makers on the disc are right in our own back yards. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. Or, if you need to hear it now, you can stream the album right on the band’s website at husbandsandwives.net. - Buzzbin Magazine
