Progress

Written By: Words and Music by William Emhof Jr.

Feeling so worn down,
like a battered wooden ship,
Tendons torn abound
from another lonesome trip,

For you.

Sightlines start to dim
as the lights begin to fade,
Kept it all within,
Oh the progress that we made,

For you.

Fleeting shadows pass,
people come and they will go.
Patterns form and collapse
into stars and they will glow,

For you.

Sightlines start to dim
as the lights begin to fade,
Kept it all within,
Oh the progress that we made,

For you.

It will never be enough
to fill in the void,
Truths will never hold you up
through all this white noise.

A Brief Stent

Written By: Words and Music by William Emhof Jr.

When the phone call came in
there was panic in her silence,
You can't prepare at all -
No you can't prepare at all.

Driving along these mountain roads,
flashing reds and blues,
The ambulance lights are a reminder
of what we have to loose.

Heats grow tired as they burn brighter.

Twenty-five miles there and back,
I drove it everyday.
Your skin's as white as December,
but the winter's far away.

A hospital bed's a prison cell,
an empty house - a tomb,
We make light of the situation,
but I pray light's coming soon.

Hearts grow tired as they burn brighter.

Summer nights never felt so long
as the seconds become the years.
The ambulance plays the siren's song,
it's still ringing in my ears.

I know you'll live to see another day,
I know that you will make it through,
I always knew that you had felt that way,
I never thought I'd hear it from you.

I Will Be the One to Break Your Heart

Written By: Words and Music by William Emhof Jr.

I think that you should know
that it's time I ought to go,
Time clears the rosy hue
to paler skin and thoughts of what reigns true.

Because in love I am a middle distance runner
and you should know that I wont make it past this summer,
But if in time we're still alone
the rains will bring us both back home.

I will be the one to break your heart.

We swim through shades of grey
when the edges start to fray
And now the certain starts to tear at the seams,
and you should have known -
Like crashing walls the leaves will fall around you.

Because in love I am a middle distance runner
and you should know that I wont make it past this summer,
But if in time we're still alone
the rains will bring us both back home.

I will be the one to break your heart.

Leaves will fall like sand in an hourglass,
Autumn comes and this too will pass,
Hearts will mend in time and so will yours,
How was I too know you wanted more?

Like Veins

Written By: Words and Music by William Emhof Jr.

Signals from a burning maze
of missing keys and guarded entryways,
Doubtful eyes so carelessly
sit on branches like veins in my arms.

Wading through a hazy sea
of passengers, and Apathy's relief
seeks nothing from these hollow trees
with the posters that hang from their arms.

Bleeding through this heart,
skylines seen through gated arches,
bridges burned from whence we part.

Shades of white through window panes,
plaster cracks in ceilings soaked with rain,
Dust sits like a phantom limb
stretched across vacancies that lay.

Missed it last when it first came,
but it will come 'round once again.
It's not the same for all that go -
Some things that are gone stay that way.

Bleeding through this heart,
skylines seen through gated arches,
bridges burned from whence we part.
Bleeding through this heart,
navigated with ancient charts,
holding fast to what has part.

It's not the same for all that go -
Some things that are gone stay that way.

Bleeding through this heart,
skylines seen through gated arches,
bridges burned from whence we part
Bleeding through this heart
navigated with ancient charts
holding fast to what has part, what has part

And we built it up
so they could stand so tall -
Paper skyscrapers.
