"Recording sessions at Bomb Shelter"

"If you are anywhere around the LA/OC/IE area and are looking for a great recording studio, please give James Trace a call and book time at Bomb Shelter. Hyena Motorcade did our last recording sessions at Bomb Shelter and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. If you want to hear an example of the sound quality we achieved, listen to our song Heartbreaks which can be found on Soundcloud, Youtube, Reverbnation, etc, etc and you will hear what I am talking about... "
Not only were the sessions fun, he gave us the best recording quality we have ever had to date, and we have recorded with some seriously great engineer/producers at well known studios..Kudos to you..we plan on making it back soon....

"Hyena Motorcade - Post-Punk Revival"

Hyena Motorcade was formed in Orange County, CA during the summer of 2009 by Ric Kaley and Mark Allen with bassist Art Agunod joining Ric and Mark shortly afterwards after the Mixed Martial Arts media group TapouT Magazine/MMA Worldwide where Mark worked was about to wrap filming on their weekly series set to be aired on HDNet. The show’s Executive Director and Cannes Film Festival Award winner James Hergott approached Mark in regards to placing the band in the show’s soundtrack after hearing a rough guitar demo of what was later to be the song “Shadows”. The band went straight into the studio to record the track which was included in six of the season’s ten episodes and the positive attention the song and band received from the TV show was enough to warrant the band continuing to write new material and to solidify the band lineup for live shows with bands such as Bow Wow Wow and The Fixx…The current band lineup consists of:
Ric Kaley (Vocals, Keyboards, Saxophone)
Mark Allen (Guitar)
Art Agunod (Bass)
Alberto Campos (Drums)

"Hyena Motorcade"

Hyena Motorcade was formed by vocalist Ric Kaley and guitarist Mark Motorcade. Bass player Art Agunod joined Ric and Mark shortly afterwards and together they started preparing to enter the studio to record what would be their debut single, “Shadows”.
“Shadows” appeared in the soundtrack of the weekly mixed martialarts television program MMA Worldwide which aired on Mark Cuban’s sports network HDNet for ten weeks in a row during the Fall of 2009. The song was recorded at Sound Asylum Studios in Santa Ana, CA. and featured Ric, Mark, Art and guest drummer James English.Later that same year, Art’s brother Nino joined Hyena Motorcade on drums and the group entered Satellite Park Studios in Malibu, CA to record their debut three song demo under the guidance of the legendary Paul Roessler. The recordings featured two originals (Into The Static and Snowflakes) along with a cover of seminal punk band The Plugz song “Achin’”.From late 2009 through the summer of 2011, Hyena Motorcade was on hiatus due to several factors but June 2011 has seen a reformed and revitalized group writing new material, booking shows and preparing to record their new CD, once again under the guidance of Paul Roessler.

"Artist Profile - Hyena Motorcade"

Hyena Motorcade defies classification as they effortlessly move between smokey sax driven blues with their song "Snowflakes" into driving dark edged post-punk with tracks like "Shadows" and "Into The Static". The band has been compared to artists such as The Psychedelic Furs, Peter Murphy and David Bowie with Ric Kaley's lower range vocals and Mark Motorcade's chimey, weaving guitar style You can contact the band via their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hyenamotorcade or their Reverbnation page at www.reverbnation.com/hyenamotorcade

"Feature Band – Hyena Motorcade"

These guys from Orange County, California are slowly getting noticed, and deservedly so. They make no secret of the fact that they are heavily influenced by bands like The Psychedelic Furs, New Order, The Sisters of Mercy and of course David Bowie. The first single I heard from them a couple of years ago was “Heartbreaks“.. full of melancholic romantic tones and a very clear taste of that Furs sound.. singer Rik Kaley’s smooth vocals are endearing and unmistakably nostalgic of a lot of things I loved about the 80s. And yet, this sound is also very “now”… gorgeous track…Then I went back and listened to some of their other tracks such as “Shadows” and detected the darker more gothic and deathrock influences. (by the way, just a bit of trivia.. guitarist, Mark Allen has a long history in the Los Angeles goth scene and was one of the early members of Ex-Voto. Singer Rik had worked together with Mark in another California goth/deathrock band called BloodPenny some years back. Currently, Mark is also in another postpunk/gothic rock project called Former Humans.) Amazing bass work on this one from bassist Art Agunod…Now the band have a brand new single “10000 Sparrows” which to me is almost Bowie-esque in parts with the vocals.. such passion in this melody.. someone on soundcloud called the guitar work on this track “buttery”.. perfect description. This track features world class drummer Alberto Campos who recently joined both Hyena Motorcade and Former Humans. The band are working on their full length album and are in hopes to close a deal with a label soon. Their current songs are available to purchase through iTunes [here] and other digital outlets. I’m looking forward to hearing what comes next! - by djcandy June 4, 2013

"Hyena Motorcade"

Biography : Hyena Motorcade was formed in Orange County, CA during the summer of 2009 by Ric Kaley and Mark Allen with bassist Art Agunod joining Ric and Mark shortly afterwards.

later that same year the Mixed Martial Arts media group MMA Worldwide/TapouT Magazine where Mark works was about to wrap filming on their weekly series set to be aired on HD Net when Chris Staab, Music Director for the series heard a rough guitar demo of what was later to be the song "Shadows" and asked Mark if he could get the song recorded within two weeks in order to make his production deadlines and include it into the TV show's soundtrack, so Mark, Ric, Art and guest drummer James English went straight into Sound Asylum Studios in Santa Ana, CA to record the track. The song was included into six of the seasons ten episodes during the 2009 season and the positive attention the song and band received both from the TV show as well as receiving airplay on terrestrial and internet stations was enough to warrant the band continuing to write more material and to solidify the band lineup for potential live shows.

Within a few months, the band brought bassist Art Agunod's brother aboard on drums and the group once again entered the studio, this time opting for Satellite Park Studios in Malibu, CA to record their debut three song demo under the guidance of the legendary Paul Roessler whos credits include The Screamers, Twisted Roots, 45 Grave, Dead Kennedys, Nervous Gender, SAUPG, Geza X and the Mommymen, Mike Watt and the Secondmen, Nina Hagen and The Deadbeats and many other seminal punk and rock bands.

The new recordings featured two originals (Into The Static and Snowflakes) along with a cover of The Plugz song "Achin'". This new three song EP received many accolades and once again was garnering quite a bit of airplay on college and internet radio. For the first time, the band had introduced the saxophone into their music in the smoky, blues driven song Snowflakes and showed the band to be diverse and able to float between genres with ease, but all the while not compromising their core sound.

From early 2010 through the summer of 2011, Hyena Motorcade was on hiatus due to several factors but June 2011 has seen a reformed and revitalized group writing new material, booking shows and in November 2011 released their first single "Heartbreaks" in nearly two years which was produced by James Trace, owner of Bomb Shelter Studios in Westminster, CA.

The band has opened for and played with other acts such as The Fixx, Bow Wow Wow and Mercurine to name but a few.

The band is now in the process of recording new material that will eventually be compiled and released as their debut full-length once negotiations with several record labels who have approached the band are wrapped up as well as deciding on a Producer to oversee production of the new CD.

""HYENA MOTORCADE DEMO CD (Self Produced, 2011)"

With a cellar full of dark rock and gothy influences, this band have that cool, slinky guitar deadpan insouciance from Mark Allen and stricken vocal detachment from Rick Kaley which bustles along through opener "Into The Static". Imagine a sober Flesh For Lulu easing their way out of a dubious alleyway and you're almost there, but with added doleful beauty.

And if I tell you that the shimmering ‘Shadows’ reminds me strongly of a modern equivalent for Psychedelic Furs you’ll definitely know the fume-laden slow burning emotional picture-shows we’re dealing with; a meticulous rhythm section of Art Agunod (bass) and Nino Agunod (drums) bolstering the dramatically billowing vocals and muted, melting guitar.

They also have a smokey song called ‘’Snowflakes’ which unfolds darkly with sweetly sinister lyrics, hypnotic sax and a lethal lounge atmosphere which is even more impressive, as if (early) Mike Scott was really American. It chimes with eerie brilliance. (“Black snowflakes are falling on the cars outside.”)

So if you fancy some stately austerity look no further."

"Hyena Motorcade featuring gunkan maki cucumber wrapped sushi recipe"

The CD for Hyena Motorcade is FINALLY here, and it is going to be HUGE if you ask this little darkling. Don’t be one of the sad few left behind in the dust!

Hyena Motorcade’s music is a nostalgic mix of all your favorite ‘80s sounds, like Bauhaus, The Psychedelic Furs, and David Bowie. In fact, if you haven’t heard “10,000 Sparrows” or “Heartbreaks” listen while you read.

Since getting together in 2009, Hyena Motorcade has opened for /played with groups like The Fixx, Bow Wow Wow, and coming up soon, Modern English! They were also featured on the 2nd season of MMA Worldwide on HDNet .

Mark Allen, guitarist for Hyena Motorcade, is a busy busy guy! Two amazing bands (he’s also in Former Humans), two amazing children, a full work schedule, and a pretty strenuous fitness routine. The dude does it all, but still somehow managed to take a few minutes to chat with me:

D’Ann: So, what do you guys like to eat?

?Mark: Thats easy, we all dig sushi ! My personal favorite is Fresh Water Eel. I also really love Toro (Tuna) and Fresh Water Eel (Unagi). Then there are jalapeno with cream cheese, spicy tuna and eel sauce, called different things at various sushi bars -like “heart attack”, “bombas”, etc…but whatever they are called, I love ‘em!!

I also eat Hot Pockets a lot….I lost a ton of weight on Hot Pocket only diet…..I am to Hot Pockets what Jared is to Subway ((holds up huge tent-like pants that I used to wear))

D’Ann: Whoa, really?

Mark: …But I was taking Tae Kwon Do and working out heavily, which probably had a lot to do with it!!

D’Ann: Haha nice! It was probably the exercise. What got you working out so much?

Mark: I was working as a writer for TapouT Magazine, and I worked with MMA Fighters all day. I was playing in a band called BloodPenny, a local LA goth band, and my son was already in martial arts….he is a natural even as a kid. I have a background in judo also. His instructor was going to enter him in competitions and knew I had experience, so he asked me to help train him. I got enrolled me in the adult classes for free to get me up to snuff, and then I realized how bad out of shape I was.

The fighters I worked with helped me to get a routine going. It consisted of a ton of cardio work, like jump rope, along with weight training. That along with two classes per week training in a heavy cotton uniform helped me drop weight. I’ve worked out nearly every night since.

D’Ann: I always wished I could fight like that.. I was always my brothers’ guinea pig for fighting moves. So these are pretty major lifestyle changes you made, huh? We may bake a beefcake in your honor!

Mark: Oh yes!! I always wanted to be one of those!!! Before, I was mostly just a cake!

While we still love the idea of making beefcakes, we‘ve decided to prepare a dish that we know the band is really into, and that’s sushi. Mark said his son loves it too, so it seemed like a great match. Have some while you check out Hyena Motorcade for yourself, and thank me later.

On September 14th, Hyena Motorcade will be interviewed on The Heart Beats Machine, and of course they are opening for Modern English on October 12 !

Ric Kaley- Vocals, Keyboards, Sax.

Mark Allen- Guitar,

Art Agunod- Bass,

Alberto Campos- Drums

Bio

Hyena Motorcade was formed in Orange County, CA during the summer of 2009 by Ric Kaley and Mark Allen with bassist Art Agunod joining Ric and Mark shortly afterwards.

later that same year the Mixed Martial Arts media group MMA Worldwide/TapouT Magazine where Mark works was about to wrap filming on their weekly series set to be aired on HDNet when James Hergott, Cannes Film Festival award winner and Director for the new series heard a rough guitar demo of what was later to be the song "Shadows" and asked Mark if he could get the song recorded within two weeks in order to make his production deadlines and include it into the TV show's soundtrack, so Mark, Ric, Art and guest drummer James English went straight into Sound Asylum Studios in Santa Ana, CA to record the track. The song was included into six of the seasons ten episodes during the 2009 season and the positive attention the song and band received both from the TV show as well as receiving airplay on terrestrial and internet stations was enough to warrant the band continuing to write more material and to solidify the band lineup for potential live shows.

Within a few months, the band brought bassist Art Agunod's brother aboard on drums and the group once again entered the studio, this time opting for Satellite Park Studios in Malibu, CA to record their debut three song demo under the guidance of the legendary Paul Roessler whos credits include The Screamers, Twisted Roots, 45 Grave, Dead Kennedys, Nervous Gender, SAUPG, Geza X and the Mommymen, Mike Watt and the Secondmen, Nina Hagen and The Deadbeats and many other seminal bands.

The new recordings featured two originals (Into The Static and Snowflakes) along with a cover of The Plugz song "Achin'". This new three song EP received many accolades and the band was once again garnering quite a bit of airplay on college and internet radio. For the first time, the band had introduced the saxophone into their music in the smoky, blues driven song Snowflakes and showed the band's musical diversity and the ability to float between genres with ease, but all the while not compromising their core sound. Famed English rock critic/author Mick Mercer favorably reviewed the release (see review in the "press" section) which exposed the band to a wider audience, specifically in England and the UK.

In December of 2011 the band was back in the studio, this time under the guidance of James Trace at Bomb Shelter Recording Studios in Westminster, CA, who helped the band record their new single entitled "Heartbreaks". The track made several "Best Of" playlists on terrestrial and internet radio stations and the band started receiving heavy comparisons to The Psychedelic Furs which are an admitted and important influence. Psychedelic Furs guitarist and Producer John Ashton liked the band enough to offer his production services and has been in talks with the band to possibly produce their debut full-length album which is slated for a 2014 release.

After opening for The Fixx in 2012, the band went on hiatus for over a year but has recently been back in the studio once again with Paul Roessler at his new Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles recording their new material. The first released single is a track entitled "10,000 Sparrows" which is being called "Bowie-esque" and receiving quite a bit of airplay in it's early release stages.

Also in 2013, the band welcomed new drummer Alberto Campos (Babylonian Tiles, Former Humans) and signed up with Robert Duzey of Angular Music Solutions to Co-Produce the new material and to assist in finding TV and movie placement of the material. Robert is also an Attorney at Law, practicing out of his office in Orange, CA.

The band has opened for and played with other acts such as Modern English (upcoming 10-12-13), The Fixx and Bow Wow Wow to name but a few.
