"Joe C.L.A.S.S.I.C (formely ANatural) featured post & review on TheOneMic.com"

ANatural is unafraid to be different. He’s known for meshing the old school Hip Hop style & Rock sound with the urban new school. One would listen to his music and notice a wide array of musical genres: a spectrum from Electronic, to Rock, to Pop, to R&B, and of course Hip-Hop/Rap. ANatural is a unique, skilled talent that is in the present and will be in the future.

"DMV MC Joe C.L.A.S.S.I.C (formely ANatural) features in Hip Hop Habit on Ourstage Magazine"

Embattled is a funny word. With a connotation leading virgin ears to believe that it’s used to describe a subject fighting in at least a two-sided battle, it’s thrown around a lot to describe musicians (often rappers) and their struggles. Using that word to describe someone engaged in conflict is fine, but it gets irritating when the embattled subject has no one to blame but themselves. OurStage rapper ANatural (display name TheRealANatural) was embattled for real for most of his childhood and adolescence, but for no fault of his own. Bouncing around various NYC housing projects with no parents to speak of and seeing his beloved grandmother (also serving as his sole guardian) pass when he was only 10, it would be easy for Joseph Boykin to throw in the towel and let life devour him and his potential. But he didn’t. A strong sense of resilience triumphed the easy way out, and now Boykin finds himself fielding publishing offers and networking with TV personalities and, even more surprisingly, rapping like he’s king of the world.

One such song with this lofty air is “Flyest.” It may be difficult for purists to make sense of lines like “more pictures/ more press/ lookin’ like VIPs/ no guests/ anything I feel I need I’m gonna get” if they’re fully aware of his history, but he wouldn’t be the first to separate rhymes and his past. Not everybody has to brood like Eminem. The beats underneath Boykin’s happiness, consisting of a repetitive lubricated synth arpeggio and a smothering helping of ascending chords as accompaniment, all combine to make the young MC sound like he’s walking on cloud nine. “Go Getta” follows in the same vein with adequate ego trips, but this time the sound is an amalgamation of electronic snippets, 80s hair metal guitar power riffs, and a barrage of kick drum. While his happiness was tinted with conceit in “Flyest,” that conceit is now pushed to the forefront as he furiously rhymes about being a boss capable of doing it all, but not without giving a little advice along the way: “Livin’ large is right/ I suggest it endorse it perfect it/ madness for the method/ roll with the punches/ I’m ready for the next one/ go until the wheels fall off/ this ain’t a test run.”

Though enormously subdued in comparison to “Go Getta,” Boykin keeps the didactic effort up in “Is It Me?” Opening with morose piano and a slick minor synth riff, the track never really grows past its humble beginnings, unlike the life and times of ANatural. That said, we should probably pay attention to the guidance he gives us. Despite the egoist rhymes in the aforementioned tracks, something tells me that lines like “Everywhere he go no desk work/ sleepin’ on the floor while his spine and his neck hurt/ all you can do is be the best you/ best kept secret step into those shoes” and “keep spittin’ til you see green like Flynn, don’t expect nothing not a thing out of them/ not a chain not a gem/ not a hi not a bye not a grin/ wish them the best whether enemy or friend” are really ANatural’s true colors. Homegrown philosophies from the school of hard knocks are the best he’s got, and it’s safe to say they’ve worked for him thus far.

ANatural's been climbing the rap game ladder since his first LP at the age of 14, and he shows no signs of slowing down. His first major music project, Musical Therapy, has caught the attention of B.E.T.’s DJ Teddy “The Deal” King who’s agreed to host it, and it was released last Tuesday July 27th. Get it while it’s hot!

"The Bitter Truth- FooManChoo Review"

Ok, so The Foo is not completely versed in hip-hop and rap. Don't get him wrong - he's owned and loved a few. But, as far as keeping up with what's hot and what's not...well, Foo will rely on his musical and audio skills here and tell you all about the smooth sounds of ANatural. There's a lot of info about this rapper, his bio sheets reads from the beginning, born in Brooklyn, influenced by various artists, musical achievements by the age of 14. But, the Foo is mainly concerned with telling you about how smooth ANatrual's words can flow.

Cruising through the songs he's uploaded here at LiveAudioMag, it didn't take long to find Foo's fav. There were several songs featuring this person or some other artist but, the tune that won the Foo over was "Me and You - featuring Claudia Janelle". (Foo likes the sexy part at the end where she's talking in French! - Saweeet!). So, Me and You has got a couple different movements inside the track and that's what really separates this one from the others. Not that his style doesn't come through on the other tracks, it's just that this one seems to match the lyrics to his style. The chorus repeats "Me and You, You and Me" which drives home the fact that the lyrics on this track are all about a romance. And the interplay with female backing vox, adds color to the scenery. The imagery in this track leaves me with memories of rockin' straight through the sunset at a beach, and into the sunrise. I see marinas with big boats, big beaches and of course some of the other important imagery in hip-hop - the cars, the penthouse, the bling, etc....it seems that he brings the whole thing around to conveying the ideas of money and security to the romance aspect of the song.

Woah! - Foo got a bit carried away w/ the lyrics. Well, it is a rap song and lyrics are key. But, what about Foo's fav part - the audio? Hmm...now
ANatural does mention his current background man in his bio. Amir Saleem, is given credit as his current producer. The part of rap that confuses The Foo the most is how there are many people behind one artist. In just about any other genre, this attitude would be a band or a group, but, Foo supposes that the rap always needs a hero.. The confusing part (without any detailed credits) is exactly who did what? Ok, lets' go with Amir producing and playing on most of the tracks. This music definitely sounds like it was made on the Akai MPC series stuff. And the Foo must say it is all good - nicely arranged music, great transitions and oh, the drop outs! - The drop out (where the music stops briefly) is to Foo, a most key aspect of good hip-hop and the music on ANatural's tracks have tasty nice drops in just the right spots.

Honestly, if Foo must critique (and of course he feels he must - just a bit) the only big schezwon Foo has with this track is a bit of mixing. The background vox have been through some great studio techniques that are tried and true, doubled vox stacked with delay that's timed perfectly to the beat. Hmmm....so what's bothering Foo? Ok, it's hard to hear but, there's one tiny note in there where the singer is a bit flat - it's really hard to hear and took awhile to pick it out but, none the less it's there. The other part that Foo just thinks would sound better in the chorus hook is actually a little less. The female vox on "me and you.." Comes in a bit to strong - it's not that all the track levels are not correct or anything technical like that. It just that her particular voice has a sharp high-mid tone and when it first hits the mix, it seems a bit off. Perhaps it might have been smoother if the higher doubled part was left out an instead replaced with that up close whisper technique. That would be a bit sexier and even match the French samples at the end (which Foo would love more of throughout the mix - but, now you see Foo's weakness! - hahah).

ANatural and Amir Saleem have got some killer tracks started here and The Foo wishes them a great and prosperous career. Foo's parting message: punch up the creativity and enhance ANatural's natural smoothness. Good luck guys and thanks for the music! - TBT- FMC Chief Editor Andrew Garber

"84 Area For the Underground: Mixtape Review"

DJTeddy King and ANatural present to the streets the “What’s The Hype Mixtape”, 17 joints of non stop rhyming and beats, not to long on the clock which to me is plus cause lets face it, most “mixtapes” can get down right boring! Off the bat they go in, no long intros, no extended shout outs to the homies, just rhyming. ANatural is deserving of the name and title. His laid back, somewhat cocky flow is complimented by a variety of instrumentals and the continuity of the disc due to smooth transitions is an enhancer, as opposed to the usual choppy and sometimes clumsy efforts of other mixtapes. I appreciate also that Teddy King actually does some cutting up this joint as well, an aspect of Hip Hop and the Mixtape culture that is definitely missing these days. ANat exhibits his lyrical ability on “Hottest In The Hood”, “I’m A Boss” and “Move”, proving that he can be metaphorical and continues to showcases these skills well throughout the CD. There is only one collabo on the mixtape.
“I’m A Boss“ features Arsiney and Giz, and is a definite banger. Artists Carlos St.John and Ohene Cornelius have solo efforts on the project and help to enhance the project rather drag it down.

Not at all slacking or sloppy this mixtape receives a 4 out of 5 BoomBoxes.

"Featured/Interview in WWS Magazine: Independent Focus"

Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.

ANatural was born Joseph Boykin in Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Sethlow Housing Projects, Brownsville East New York. Due to the absence of my parents, I moved out of Sethlow into Pologrounds Housing Apartments in Harlem, New York when I was 10 yrs old. After the untimely death of my grandmother Gloria Level i was taken-in by my great grandmother, Willie Mae Boykin. I always had a love for music & writing. I decided to move to New Jersey with friend and business partner, Bim Star. We both had aspirations to be successful. During this time I observed Hip Hops ever changing evolution and how it was being portrayed. I recently caught the attention of Dj Teddy King of B.E.T’s “The Deal” who hosted my 1st major project. After a recent switch of Management and surrounding myself with a solid team of people who believe in me, I finally feel that I have everything in place for a break out year.

What is one of the mos drastic changes you’ve made about yourself in the last year?

Figuring out that the more you do for yourself the more people will want to do for you.

What would you spend you a million dollars on?

I would invest half into starting up my own businesses and bank the rest.

What was your biggest risk taken in your career?

I would have to say just being myself. Most artist rather emulate someone else. We (TME) create music we enjoy listening to, music for the masses to enjoy.

What suggestions do you have for other independent starters like yourself?

Stay Independent, stay focus, stay on your grind, be consistent and ambitious. When you bring something to the table you have more say so to negotiate rather than suttle.

What’s one incident that would serve as a turning point to your life?

The passing of my great grandmother Willie Mae Boykin in 2009 was a major turning point for me. I realized that the only thing certain is the present. Tomorrow isn’t promise so live every day likes its your last.

What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your site?

Promoting threw my home front T.M.E website (www.TimelessMuzicEnt.com) all my shows and all kinds of social networking websites. Be on the lookout for all of Timeless Muzic Entertainment Artist and my upcoming album MUSICAL THERAPY. Much thanks to everybody who believes in me and support my music.
