Kazi is originally from Nassau Bahamas. He migrated to America at 14 years of age, to reunite with his biological mother, after being abandoned at 6months old.

Brooklyn, New York is a breeding ground for some of the most powerful rap artists in the world Chris “Kazi” Rolle emerges from this very stable by way of Crown Heights. Kazi drew inspiration for Manny Faces from numerous hard-life experiences. He was abandoned by his mother at 6 months old in Nassau, Bahamas, and thrust into the “system” through orphanages, foster care and eventually, correctional facilities. He eventually found his way to New York and wound up on the streets, doing what many disenfranchised young men do to survive.
It was music that saved his life

Kazi has an innate love for music and an ear for new sounds and talent. His natural wit and knack for storytelling delivered with an “in the pocket” flow attracted Hip Hop legend Doug E. Fresh, who became Kazi (then “John Doe”)’s manager. During this time, Kazi worked with former Bad Boy producer Derrick “D-Dot” Angelettie and a pre-Grammy Kanye West.

Determined to turn his life around, Kazi created The Hip Hop Project, a youth-based program that connects NYC teens to music industry professionals to write, produce and market their own Hip Hop album. With the support of music/fashion icon Russell Simmons, Kazi’s inspiring life story and work with this ground-breaking program is also the subject of a feature-length documentary movie, The Hip Hop Project, co-executive produced by Bruce Willis and Queen Latifah hit theaters Spring 2007.
