Biography

Sara Azriel is a vocalist, pianist, and songwriter of pure emotional charge. Luscious, contemplative, sensual, sometimes sassy, and utterly honest, her songs are rich with years of loving and longing. From full-body shivers to tears to a sort of friskiness, in the end the most common experience shared by her audiences is one of hope. Sara is often compared to artists such as Peter Gabriel, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, and Jeff Buckley. With a pop sensibility and a devotion to exploring musical forms and inventions, Sara Azriel is a true artist continually searching and expanding her musical vision.

Sara was born into a large family of musicians and raised on the pristine beaches of Muskegon, Michigan. She began singing and playing the piano as an infant. In her pre-collegiate years she was selected to perform at Walt Disney World and began to play professionally across Western Michigan. The acclaim she received led to her accepting a scholarship from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where, in 2001, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Professional Music.

During her tenure at Berklee, Sara performed at many well-known Boston-area venues under her own name and with Boston reggae-greats, The Joint Chiefs. Such venues included The House of Blues, The Middle East, The Lizard Lounge, and the Milky Way. During her summers, she has performed at several music festivals including the Berkshire Mountain Music Festival (Great Barrington, MA) the Creekside Jamboree (Forksville, PA), and Muskegon Summer Celebration alongside such artists as Aretha Franklin, The Slip, Santana, Soulive, and The Roots. In July of 1998, Sara had the honor of opening for The Wallflowers, led by Jakob Dylan.

Recently relocated to Los Angeles, California, Sara is hard at work on her debut album.

She is a dynamic, ambitious person and musician—and to her, the two are related: "Music is what drives me and moves me...there’s never been a choice for me. I’ve always known this is what I have to do." Sara Azriel

Lyrics

Gloria

Written By: Sara Azriel © 2004

I have made up my mind
Yes, I confess
It's a rolling rocking sea
Dressed, bodiless
Cradled by memory
And a wind that is pulling for me

Hands are laid, bodies made
But out of mind
Then along comes this fate
Do I swallow or open wide?
The breath has been given
And the words they are daring to design

Gloria
You're falling
Soaring now
Been Calling
Gloria
You are soaring
Falling now
Been called to

Find that nest, meet you there
Oh do I dare?
I am scared and seasoned, frozen tight
Out of air
But I know, I know you've given me All that I can bare
Through the lakes and the vines
Stretch open wide
Then the rolling rocking sea press
Does conspire
To grant you the vision of a bird who is Trying to fly

Gloria
You're falling
Soaring now
Been Calling
Gloria
You are soaring
Falling now
Been called to

I'm On My Way

Written By: Sara Azriel © 2004

Never have I had
The chance to be
The starlet of your dreams
But I admit
That furthermore
You're not the man for me
But my heart cries "YES"
And I soon forget

Never will I hold
The throne to your exotic boulevard
That crown is worn
It's her not me who's
Dancing in your arms
Still my heart cries "YES"!
And I soon forget

Never
Such a long ending
C'est la vie
My sweet mon petit
I been holding on
Honestly I've tried
Saying Goodbye

Never will I be
The hand that's played
The queen of all your deals
But I'll admit that you're the king
Who's brought me to my knees
Still my heart cries "YES!"
And I soon forget
I'm on my way
Yeah
I'm on my way

Never
Such a long ending
C'est la vie
My sweet mon petit
I been holding on
Honestly I've tried
Saying Goodbye

Ever will I have the chance to be
the burning flame in one
But now I'm done pursuing those
Whose love will never come

I will find my love
I will know I'm

Love
I'm on My Way
Love
I'm on my way
Love
I'm on my way
Love
I'm on my way!

Rainbow

Written By: Sara Azriel © 2004

Rainbow where are you?
I can't go much further
Without any sense of your light
I may just fade
If there's a place
I have dreamt of forever
It bridges the earth to the heavens
With each breath I take

Say you love me too
Just as the sun feeds you
Say this joy is true
I know 'cause
I'm filled by thee
You've shown the light to me

Colors aligned
WIth my body, my mind
Systemic fractions and numbers
And warm honey hues
Just for a moment
I can feel all my wholeness
Even when it is raining
I still will be waiting in bloom

Say you love me too
Just as the sun feeds you
Say this joy is true
I know 'cause
I'm filled by thee
You've shown the light to me
I know happy we'll be
'Cause this is the center
