Bio

Often overlooked by the music community, New Jersey has produced a wealth of talented hip hop artists including Newark native, Starsky (born Shadir Thomas). Aptly known as The Voice of New Jersey, Starsky began writing and honing his lyrical skills at the young age of 12. Pulling influences from legendary artists Nas, Biggie, and Jay Z, Starsky released his first street album entitled Blast Fa No in 2000. Moving over 30,000 units, Starsky took heed of the local buzz and widespread fan support to expand his music.

Fresh off the success of his second album, Starsky took his talent overseas to Europe in 2008. During his travels on a mini-tour in Italy, Starsky soon realized the overwhelming effect and influence that American hip hop had on a global spectrum. “I went to Italy and toured 7 different locations and everybody knew my music word for word. It sparked a light in me to provide more music to those fans who appreciate conscious, real hip hop, Starsky reflects. His return to the US gave him an innovative edge over his musical peers. Currently, the hip hop genre has taken a turn towards the South but Starsky has positioned himself to be a forerunner in bringing the truth of hip hop back to Northeast.

With popularity behind his last album, Bottom Music Vol 1: New Jersey Resurrection, Starsky is currently working on a follow-up, Bottom Music Part 2: Leak Season. Starsky feels that he will be an artist to help evolve music and make records that are timeless yet relevant. The launch of his own label movement, Bottom Music, has allowed him the freedom to create music that transcends color lines. Starsky says, “When it comes to the music, I'm very competitive. So when I drop my album it’s going to be a special moment for hip hop.
