It's pretty much me surrounded by a playground of instruments
and microphones, notepads and caffeine.

note: my song was a bit long, so I tapered it off before the last verse to make it five minutes.

Lyrics

Lyre Left Unplayed

Written By: Ian Perkins

I drive a limousine with my eyes half closed,
Dreaming uneasy as the moonlight grows,
I'm having trouble getting used to my new suit, and I've got no GPS to help me figure out my route, but I
cart around the spirits like a box of golden fruit.
and take them where the weary lay to rest.

I was homeless for about three months,
until I saw an ad that caught my eye at once,
said death retired to some graveyard with a view,
and left behind a job where no one tells you what to do,
So classify your conscience cause we want to hire you,
and eager is the lyre left unplayed...

CHORUS
I'm sorry that i couldn't take your breath away,
and pardon me for pushing us too far apart to stay,
I apologize for coming, unannounced my dear today
But there's a reason that here,
and it seems your time is near,
but I just cant bring myself to take your breath that way.....

Grasping my resume I walked inside,
The other applicants had terror in there eyes,
there was a skeleton conducting interviews,
just cackling and actually questioning our views,
I guess I got the job cause I had nothing left to lose,
Brave are those who only own their shoes..

I was forewarned by my boss of bone, of a
painful transformation I would undergo alone,
my skin was simply disappearing in my sleep,
I lost my hair and grew until i couldn't find my feet,
when a package unaddressed supplied the robe that I would keep,
and wondrous are hungry men when finally they eat

CHORUS
I'm sorry that i couldn't take your breath away,
and pardon me for pushing us too far apart to stay,
I apologize for coming, unannounced my dear today
But there's a reason that here,
and it seems your time is near,
but I just cant bring myself to take your breath that way.....

Three sisters greeted me my first day there
they talked in unison and floated in the air
they spoke of destiny and fate kept in a file
and taught me how to use my sickle grinning all the while
to safely sway the spirits to the afterlife in style
and mesmerised was I by lady fate

{had to cut off the last verse to meet your time restrictions}

Well as you may have herd I got let go,
my skin grew back the day I handed in my robes,
I stand before you not an agent of the grim, but
so you may take a demon and find genteelness in him
for a soul to go to waste is but a food without a taste,
and eager left unplayed
