"MUCH TO HIS DISMAY CD ..."

i have been following guitarist ian's career for a while now. he has now re invented his style! what a nice groove these cats creat together. i only have one regret . . . . sadly they are in ohio and i'm in Los Angeles and can't producing them over the internet...they'll have to come out here blessings boys..keep up the good work ! ! ! hollywood music producer, jimmy hunter http://jimmyhunter.com

"Reminiscent of the late great Wes Montgomery..."

On MUCH TO HIS DISMAY - Ross is stretching his growing chops in a seven song disc mixing originals such as the basic walking bass line of Sam's Blues and the breezy Latin groove of Ethereal Plane, which features a tasty trombone solo from Scott Forney. Ross also flexes his arranging muscles with a cool, laid-back medley of the standards ON GREEN DOLPHIN STREET, YOU STEPPED OUT OF A DREAM, with Herbie Hancock's DOLPHIN DANCE. He's still learning and finding his voice but his use of octaves and chords in his solos are reminiscent of the late great Wes Montgomery.

"The CD IS AWESOME"

I have booked Ian's Rock group - THE LUCKY 13 BAND which is a great rock band - BUT with this CD - Ian really shows his diversity with jazz. The CD is simply AWESOME!!!
- BB Balser - Booker for UC

"The album hearkens to cool jazz counterparts from the past, like early Miles Dav"

MUCH TO HIS DISMAY... is full of apt arrangements of traditional songs, and ROSS carries the torch of standard jazz in its truest form. Jazz aficionados will be interested in the album if only to chronicle the beginnings of a young talent. Others will appreciate the collection for its atmospheric qualities.

"Guitar FATNESS - THE B SONG"

Guitar Fatness Ya-all got some very fat sounding guitar tone here. It comes on strong and hit you right in the face. A great lead solo is played over the fat rythem guitar. The bass sets a great foundation along with the drums for this heavy blues tune. you get the A+ award from me for the harmonizing guitar solo that leads into the second solo. Aint nothing about this song that I dont like or even rubs me sideways. Guitar fatness all the way yea.

"The REAL DEAL has four edgy songs which reminds me of Eric Clapton."

The Lucky 13 Band found themselves in pretty good company when it recorded a CD with Grammy Winning Producer Jim Gaines. Jim Gaines has produced such artists as SRV, Santana, Tommy Castro, etc.. The result was a CD with four edgy songs, including two versions of FUNERAL IN THE RAIN, deservedly their most popular song. The highlights of the CD are Ross and Flinn's guitar solos, which hearken back to early Eric Clapton riffs and fit neatly into the songs. - The REAL DEAL has four edgy songs which reminds me of Eric Clapton.

"Radio Thyme rocks from jams to a great pop sound..."

The Lucky 13 Band Radio Thyme (self-released) From the sounds of things, somebody’s been up to the attic to check out Dad’s old LPs. While the Lucky 13 Band appears to be a youthful lot, the aesthetics that prevail on their self-produced release hail from a long-gone era. The decidedly throwback nature evokes a time when extended instrumentals were a new thing for rock and the term "heavy" wasn’t permanently welded to metal. In the post-Hendrix universe of the late ’60s, the jam became as important as the song that launched it. On numbers such has "Stay Away From My Woman" and "Dance with the Devil" the 13s, particularly guitarist Ian Ross and drummer Danny Phillips, sound as if they can’t wait to get to the fun part and cut loose. Best of all, that urgency sounds legit and unforced. There’s writing talent here as well. "Funeral in the Rain" has the pop smarts and the rhythmic grounding of an early Robert Palmer tune. Nice work. A MINUS — Duane Verh Contact: Dan Ross, 330-686-9510; daross@kent.edu

"LIVE is the way to hear this BAND!!!"

I first heard them at the Akron Rib Burn OFF. They just rocked, but had a GREAT blues sound too. Radio Thyme CD really shows what this band can do. But, I am partial to the LIVE sound - so the last two tracks on the CD are my favorites!!!! - Scott Moore

"They have a really good blues-rock sound."

They describe themselves as a band specializing in rock and blues. I feel that is a fair description. Funeral In The Rain struck me as a classic rock tune. So, I was expecting a classic rock collection, but there are tracks that are definitely blues driven - No More Tears, No Idea, etc.. I turned the sound up on this CD and was quite impressed. - Revue Magazine
