Bio

Iara Rennó, singer, composer, player, musician, and producer, has music recorded by Elza Soares (“Mandingueira”) on a partnership with Bid and Walmir Gil, for the album “Bambas e Biritas”, from Bid, in 2006), and Ney Matogrosso who sings “Leve”, composed with Alice Ruiz, on the “Inclassificáveis” tour.

Nowadays, Iara has been on her solo tour, Macunaopera, releasing the álbum “Macunaó peraí matupi”, which is a musicalization from parts of Macunaíma - O herói sem nenhum caráter”, by Mario de Andrade. This project started in 1999, during Iara´s Languages Course at USP (University of São Paulo) when Iara identified the latent musicality of the book. The songs are parts mostly already shown in verses. Three songs have been recorded before and are now part of this album with new musical arrangements “Valei-me” and “Mandu Sarará”, from the record “Cartografia Musical Brasileira / São Paulo – Rumos Musicais 2001” (the Itaú Cultural collection), and “Macunaíma”, from the record “ Composição” from DonaZica band (2003).

The first copies of the album, sponsored by Petrobrás, will be distributed among public education departments, culture foundations and in teachers’ graduating centers all over Brazil, as a complementary study of the works of “Macunaíma – the hero without a character”, a book that is often asked for at the “vestibular” (pre university exams).. It was selected by Programa Cultural da Petrobras and released nationally and commercially by Selo Sesc on agust, 2008. Many artists has signed the production of some of its music, such as Siba, Kassin, Moreno Veloso, Benjamin Taubkin, Beto Villares, Alexandre Basa, Maurício Takara, Daniel Ganjaman, Quincas Moreira e Buguinha Dub. Specially invited artists also participate on the record: Tom Zé, Fuloresta (Siba´s band), Arrigo Barnabé, Dante Ozetti, Funk Buia, Barbatuques, Tetê Espíndola, Toca Ogã, Bocato, Anelis Assumpção and many others.

In 2001, along with Anelis Assumpção and Andréia Dias, Iara made the band “Dona Zica”, one of the newest names of popular music in São Paulo. The band has two released records: “Composição”, from 2003 and “Filme Brasileiro”, 2005. Both have been very well criticized by the specialists. Among other concerts, in 2007, Dona Zica performed in Auditório do Parque Ibirapuera, with invited guests like Zélia Duncan, Arnaldo Antunes, Arrigo Barnabé, Jorge Mautner and Happin´Hood. In the same year, made a concert celebrating Ataulfo Alves (brazilian´s samba composer and singer) with Luiz Melodia and Jorge Mautner, at Sesc Vila Mariana.

Iara was born and grown on a musical environment, the Espíndola´s family. She is the daughter of Alzira Espíndola, (singer and composer) and Carlos Rennó (composer/writer). She is Tetê Espíndola´s niece.
From 1998 to 2002, Iara was part of the band of Itamar Assumpção, as backing vocal. In 2000, won the prize of popular music on the “Festival da Universidade de São Paulo”, with the project “Síntese”.

Classified for the 2000/2001 edition of the Itaú Cultural project “Tendências e Vertentes”, with others 77 independent composers from all over the country, Iara had two of her songs recorded and included on the albuns released by this project. They are “Mandu-Sarará” and “Valei-me”.
In 2002, was part of the group who joined Zélia Duncan, Cássia Eller, Arrigo Barnabé among others on the concert “Homenagem a Itamar Assumpção”, at Sesc Pompéia.
In 2003 participated of the sixth “Prêmio Visa” – composers- that selected 24 among more than 2000 composers.
In 2005, composed and recorded with Dona Zica, “Voz”, that was the theme from the documentary “Vozes do Brasil”, project from Patricia Palumbo, who works and produces the broadcast radio show “Vozes do Brasil”.
