Nos gusta mucho recibir nuevas propuestas musicales en nuestros diferentes buzones, y que mejor que recibir la invitación aun evento. I Can Chase Dragons fue una de ellas y la verdad es que nos gustó mucho.
Este es el proyecto alterno de Julio Gudiño, vocalista de The Plastics Revolution. Con una combinación de pop electrónico, ritmos bailables y visuales proyectados en una tela blanca, nos demuestran que algo simple puede llegar a ser un grandioso proyecto.
El ambiente ayer en la Terraza del Centro Cultural de España fue inmejorable, mucha gente se dio cita a lo que fue la presentación de su disco y así tener un inicio destacable en los escenarios. El show que Julio nos ofreció, dejó satisfechos a todos los que asistimos a verlo, ya que además de música, pudimos disfrutar de un gran show visual, sigan muy de cerca a ICCD porque estoy seguro que les agradará. - Rock And Radio
It seems 2012 will be a year of great dreampop/fuzzpop/futurepop, perhaps due to the success of artists like Purity Ring last year, and this sample suggests another great dreampop album is a-comin’. Expansión, I Can Chase Dragon!’s debut album will be coming out via Dos Pelicanos Records this year, which I will hopefully be able to review and post shortly after it’s release (or maybe before again).
O’Donoju makes fantastic use of a fairly typical set of drums and a moderately dense collection of electronic instruments and effects to create a beautifully saturated soundscape. Despite the saturation of instruments, the vocals come through the track clearly and the mix never gets out of hand. Unfortunately, I can’t understand what’s being said, but it’s great that there is more than one language on the album. This track also has one of the best first-15-seconds I’ve heard in a while, an amazing little theme that continues throughout the track.
Republique, the more recent release, is even better than O’Donoju, with a more interesting collection of instruments and the clear inclusion of a female singer as well as a male singer. This track has a bit of a clearer melody without losing the variety provided by all the effects and electronic instruments. There is also a better use of percussive sounds for this track.
Dense sections separated by 2 or 3 sections with quiet, rythmic electronics and some percussion seems to be a trend for I Can Chase Dragons!, a trend apparent in the visualisations of both the songs. This separation of somewhat different movements allows each song to include more variety than your typical dreampop track has. Hopefully, this will be done in most of the songs on the album Expansión.

Side projects are always interesting. It’s great to see what sort of sonic deviation a band member will take when he or she breaks off from their fellow members. In the case of Julio Gudiño, guitarist and vocalist of famed Mexico City-based indie outfit The Plastics Revolution, his new solo electronic dabble pulls at everything from vintage Mexican folk records to dreamy electronica. Currently based out of Boston, I Can Chase Dragons! looks to be a promising movement in the current electronic and sample-based scene (a niche that has yet to bloom on the East coast).
I Can Chase Dragons! will soon be dropping an EP, with a barrage of different influences. Jams smoothly bleed old Mexican vinyl with new wave synths, and Gudiño’s signature, soaring vocals.
Gudiño’s musical goals extend far beyond your ears, however, with his visual media hitting the same dreamy notes as his songs. “O’donoju,” one of the songs on the upcoming EP, is greatly complemented by the cinematography of young indie director J.G. Ross, a fellow Mexico City slicker with a knack for crafting some unique pieces of film.

I met Julio Gudiño, vocalist for The Plastics Revolution, back in March at SXSW. I never thought that handing him my about.me/Moo business card would actually result in anything but, back in August, Julio emailed me with his first single called “Diving For Sunken Treasure” from his side project I Can Chase Dragons! Ever since then I have been waiting on pins and needles for what else he has in store.
A couple weeks ago the second single “O’donoju” was put up on Soundcloud and today I just came across this awesome Freedom Sessions video of a third track called “Escoge tu animal”. It was recorded by The Weird Fishes in Morelos, Mexico. It is worth watching just to see the beautiful backdrop. I love the track and it is a good way to dust off my Spanish speaking skills. Makes me miss Cuernavaca, Morelos where I studied abroad back in 2007. Julio is studying in Boston at the moment and working on the upcoming I Can Chase Dragons! album. Keep an eye out for him raising his head along the east coast in the near future. - Epic Concoction
Después de un primer sencillo bastante interesante, regresa I Can Chase Dragons, el proyecto solista de Julio, vocalista de The Plastics Revolution. Esta segunda pieza, titulada "O'Donoju" se desmarca completamente de su primer sencillo.
Tenemos una canción con tintes de sicodelia y mucha experimentación sonora. Se nota un trabajo mucho más profundo en el desarrollo y preparación de las canciones. El segundo botón de lo que esperamos sea un disco, nos deja intuir el camino que tomará el proyecto, al parecer será el de la experimentación y, si continua por ese camino, puede ser una de las más agradables sorpresas musicales próximas a venir.

I Can Chase Dragons! is a new artist hailing from Boston led by Mexican-born musician Julio Gudiño. Thus, their music is the product of blending carefully arranged Mexican-folk samples with loops and field recordings from different parts of the world. The unusual mixture of the organic and electronic elements that construct their songs is so delicate and impeccably executed that it sounds natural and almost homogenous, reminiscent of bands like Panda Bear and Monster Rally.
To introduce this project, the band has decided to share with us their summer-infatuated debut single “Diving For Sunken Treasure”. The song is bright, yet nostalgic. Drowning in reverb, the song generates faded and halfway-desaturated images in your mind that you may not be sure if they belong to the past or to a near future.

I Can Chase Dragons! (ICCD!) es el nuevo proyecto solista de Julio Gudiño, vocalista de The Plastic Revolution.
Con sonidos similares al dream pop electrónico, Julio hace uso de una mezcla de sampleos y loops que nos hacen recordar a bandas como Deerhunter, Yeasayer y Panda Bear. ICCD! nos presenta un sonido bastante ameno y fresco, como “sentarse en una banca bajo una colección de palmeras de luces de neón en una playa que existe en medio de la ciudad”, así lo mencionan en su Soundcloud.
Para presentar su nuevo proyecto, I Can Chase Dragons! nos deja con “Diving For Sunken Treasure”, el primer sencillo de su primer LP homónimo. Con un ritmo alegre y un agradable chiflido, mismo que seguramente quedará en la mente de más de una persona. Esta canción posiblemente se convertirá en una de las canciones más sonadas este verano.
Aunque el sencillo está en inglés, su primer LP, el cual saldrá a finales de este año, será mitad en inglés y mitad en español.

El uso de sampleos y loops cada vez resulta más común en el terreno del rock independiente. Bandas en el cuadrante de Animal Collective, Terrestrial Tones, o incluso de El Guincho en España, vienen creando música a partir de ello
Para Julio, mejor conocido como Alec Von Julyson, vocalista de Plastics Revolution, una herramienta de composición es recolectar sonidos cotidianos para transformarlos en piezas de estructura pop.
El resultado es interesante y con toques de psicodelia soñadora nos presenta "Diving For Sunken Treasure", primer sencillo de I Can Chase Dragons!, un disco que promete ser lanzado a finales del año.

Por tal razón y en la búsqueda de dar a conocer a más gente su proyecto, envió a la redacción de United Rock League Magazine el segundo sencillo titulado "O'Donoju".
Dream Pop, Pop Alternativo y Synt Pop son algunas de las referencias de género que se pueden encontrar al escuchar su música.
Además de lo anterior, nos presenta un video en el que se incluyen los visuales que de una u otra forma definen la canción.

I Can Chase Dragons
Este es el proyecto solista de Julio Gudiño, vocalista de The Plastic Revolutions. Por lo regular cuando un vocalista hace un proyecto alterno se queda la linea de la voz muy marcada y en este caso, esta banda tiene su esencia propia. Se trata de dream pop empleando muchos loops y samples; “dreamy electric textures”. Muy ameno al oído y muy recomendable para el clima lluvioso. - Alterexa (FM radio station in Puebla)

La noche inició con La Especialidad de la Casa, siete jóvenes talentos que mezclaron ritmos africanos, hip hop, funk y de jazz con instrumentos como el saxofón, teclados, bajo con secuencias metaleras y bongo. Fue toda una experiencia para los oídos ya que los chicos tocan con muchísima energía y pasión que se contagiaron a todo el público.
Posteriormente Julio, vocalista de los Los Plastics Revolutions presentó por primera vez en vivo su proyecto solista I Can Chase Dragons! . Si bien su tema debut “Diving For Sunken Treasure” recuerda a Broken Social Scene el resto de su material es completamente diferente y original.
En un solo act muy recomendable y con una clara influencia del actual sonido de Brookyln. Julio ayudado de sintetizadores y grabaciones se presenta como un multiinstrumentalista al muy estilo fresco y bailable de El Guincho, Panda Bear (Animal Collective), High Places y Los Amparitos y al mismo tiempo tan experimental como Kría Brekkan, Drawlings y Grimes e incluso un poco electrónico como Teengirl Fantasy.
La noche finalizó con Dj Ruth Selecta, quien con muchos años en la industria musical y algunos años en clubs franceses, deleitó con una mezcla de lounge electrónico frances, hindú al estilo de Toma Fetermix.

I Can Chase Dragons!’ debut LP was first released on January 2012 by Mexican independent label Dos Pelícanos and then rereleased on October 2012 under Arts & Crafts.
"Diving For Sunken Treasure", the first single, got a positive review by most important Mexican blogs, including Me Hace Ruido, Marvin, Sicario, Mu-sique and many others. The song also featured in many music blogs worldwide, creating enough of an international buzz for ICCD! to be noticed and signed by Dutch publishing company Massive Music.
The second single, "O'Donoju," expanded on what was achieved with the first single, helping the attention on ICCD! increase both in Mexico and internationally. Among other positive reviews, this single got ICCD! a very favorable review in recognized Latin American blog NWLA and Mexican music blog Sindicato del Sonido (being described as "one of the best musical surprises coming out of the country"), as well as radio airplay in most of Mexico's major rock/alternative radio stations.
The third single, "Republique", turned out to be the strongest card in the album, making its way into radio stations across the US and creating an impressive online buzz that generated over 90,000 plays in Soundcloud alone.

I Can Chase Dragons! is the solo project of Julio Gudiño, lead singer from Mexican band The Plastics Revolution who is currently based in Boston.
With an expansive sonic palette, his music could be described as sample and loop-based experimental pop: a unique mixture of Latin American flavors rescued from old vinyls, psychedelic synths coexisting with tropical melodies, and electronic rhythms dyed in Caribbean colors, perfect to transform any place into a party in a beach.
As a consequence of Julio's bi-cultural upbringing, ICCD!'s music presents a unique mixture of Latin American sounds such as cumbia and Mexican folklore and Anglo-Saxon styles like electronica, psychedelic pop, and shoegaze. The music also delivers this bi-cultural mixture lyric-wise, since the songs are written half in English and half in Spanish. This allows for ICCD! to appeal both to Latin American listeners as well as the international English-speaking audience.
In promotion of its debut album Expansión, released in January 2012 by Dos Pelícanos, I Can Chase Dragons! has performed in important international festivals such as CMJ Music Marathon, Corona Capital, and Festival Marvin, as well as in different cities around the world such as New York, London, Milan, Amsterdam, Boston and Mexico City.
