"Home > Music Fort Worth band Ice Eater plays it cool – and mysterious – on its debut Don’t Care"

Ice Eater takes pride in making music it considers unusual, but the five musicians who make up the post-prog-punk outfit are naturals in terms of pushing the sonic envelope.

When describing their sound, the guys go back and forth between intentional mystery and direct comparisons to underground ’80s icon Joy Division.

Ice Eater will release its first studio album, Don’t Care, on Saturday at Lola’s Saloon, as part of the monthly Good Show Live Music Series.

Drummer Wyatt Adams can already set the scene.

“There are a lot of alternative country kids around,” he says. “They just stand there and look at us, scratching their heads like, ‘What is this?’ I enjoy that.” - Dfw.com

"Ice Eater: Cold Comfort"

Ice Eater is not a very Fort Worth-ish band. The guys can party with the best of ’em, but their music sounds like it came from outer space in the future. Though it’s definitely rock, it features elements of early disco, punk, and New Wave. There are guitars, but they’re used nontraditionally — co-songwriter Zachary Edwards doesn’t just stand there and rock barre chords soaked in reverb. Rather, he uses his instrument to add texture, mostly in a mechanical way: creating grinding noises, plucking out bright, flickering melodies, or elongating small batches of notes into humming riffs. In fact, Ice Eater is a seriously mechanical-sounding band, due additionally to the stickwork of drummer and co-songwriter Wyatt Adams, who comes up with some inventive beats that in their drastic minimalism seem programmed. Ice Eater, though, produces every note organically, and the samples or loops that pop up here and there are original, non-computerized creations. “It’s all hardware, no software,” said keyboardist Jordan Kline. “There’s no computer, and there will never be a computer.” - Fort Worth Weekly

Bio

Ice Eater is an Alternative Rock band from Fort Worth, Texas. Influenced by a wide and obscure variety of music from Post-Punk and Shoegaze to Dance-Rock and New Wave, Ice Eater unabashedly creates a new brand of aggressive and dancy Rock music. With highly energetic live performances that range from suddenly bombastic to intensely chaotic, the band quickly made a name for itself in the Dallas/Fort Worth scene, giving way to opportunities to open for bands like Small Black, Com Truise, Baths, Snowden, Royal Bangs, and !!! (chk chk chk) and an invitation to join Red Bull's Sound Select team. Ice Eater's debut record, "Don't Care" was released in Spring 2013 to critical acclaim. Engineered and Produced by Alex Bhore (This Will Destroy You, Future Death, Symbol), the eight song effort accurately captures the band's energy and mystique while still leaving room for sonic experimentation outside of their  dynamic live setting. Bhore returned to record their well received fall 2013 Fort Tits/Noxeema split with Los Angeles/Fort Worth based Son Of Stan on Wizardvizion Records. Both records have seen airplay on 102.1 fm The Edge and various websites and blogs. After their 2014 official showcase at SXSW, the future looks bright for this band on the rise.
