ICEWATER

Icewater is an R&B/Funk band with a style all its own. Listeners are treated to everything from soulful ballads and body-moving funk, to hard hitting tunes with an edge. Icewater was originally created in 1998 by Robert Johnson and Allen “Keith” Caldwell. Keith has since left the group to pursue other interests. Icewater at its current state consists of Robert Johnson (lead guitar and vocals), Mitchell Sands (percussion) and Jamahl Gibson (bass guitar and vocals). There has been a natural chemistry among the group that has allowed them to create and grow together as artists. Icewater has a very special bond.

Robert Johnson has been playing the guitar since his early teen years. He is a multi-talented “self taught” musician who later became formally educated in music theory. He is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota and has been influenced by a wide range of musicians. From such artists as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, D’Angelo, and Prince, to Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and the Beatles. The combination of such influences and his own creativity, has allowed Robert to become a well-accomplished musician, with an extensive track record. Prior to co-creating Icewater, Robert was a session musician in Minnesota for a company called Audio Magic.

Mitchell Sands joined Icewater in 1999. He has been playing drums for most of his life. Musicians who realize the importance of music have trained Mitchell. He not only plays technically well, he has the ability to make you “feel” the rhythm that creates mood to Icewater tunes. His influences range from Gospel to Jazz and Funk to Hip Hop.

Jamahl Gibson became a member of Icewater in the Fall of 1998. Jamahl has been playing music since junior high school, but has been singing for most of his life. Originally trained and educated as a trumpet player, he has taught himself to play bass guitar and keyboard by ear. As a member of Icewater, Jamahl adds mellow bass grooves and smooth vocals that compliment the rhythmic styles of Robert and Mitchell. Such artists as Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis, to Mint Condition and D’Angelo, have influenced Jamahl.
