Avante-Garage rock with flavors of early Pretenders, The White Stripes, and Massive Attack in a blender

Biography

Icky’s Ego is the ambient/hard-hitting rock collaboration of Los Angeles based musicians David Crocco, Cela Scott, Philo Brathwaite and Vreny Van Elslande.

The band spends their daylight hours sequestered in the Hollywood Hills with producer extraordinaire Brian D. Hardin, investigating sonic landscapes and mental meltdowns.

By night, the band performs throughout Southern California. Their Avante-Garage Rock sound has been said to have flavors of early Pretenders, The White Stripes, and Massive Attack in a blender.

Some of Icky’s Ego’s other musical loves and influences are The Beatles, DJ Shadow, Portishead, Bjork, Led Zeppelin, Prince, P. J. Harvey, The Doors, Jeff Buckley, Beck, Public Enemy, Sigur Ross, David Bowie, The Police, and Pink Floyd…

Lyrics

Chimera

Written By: Cela Scott & David Crocco

Seems to be
We’ve fallen under subtle siege
The days are gone
The wicked walk among the free
And you’re lucky cause you can feel it
Eyes wide open
And I know something you can’t ever
And I know I’ll need to do it again

Eyes wide open eyes wide open
Cutt off at the knees
Eyes wide open eyes wide open

Maybe you had the same dream
I could have sworn I saw you there
Well really think clearly
Could anyone have followed you here?

No grin and bear it, no sweat it out
I’m casing out your breathing
Fighting off a foreign face
This briefly beating wing hovers over me only here
And when it’s then, only you will do and I’ll take from you

Eyes wide open eyes wide open
Cut off at the knees
Eyes wide open eyes wide open

Maybe you had the same dream
I could have sworn I saw you there
Well really think clearly
Could anyone have followed you here?

Eyes wide open eyes wide open
Cut off at the knees
Eyes wide open eyes wide open

Rome

Written By: Cela Scott & David Crocco

Isn’t it so obvious
Why are you so oblivious
I’ve lost my patience but I won’t let it get to me

I can’t believe that you don’t see
But you don’t really want to see
Right here and right now
They’re all a bunch of liars

Rome is falling…down

Survivors fears and bachelors
Surreal idols, cops gone wild
Coliseums on TV
They’ve got you hooked it’s feeding time

A gentle prince in disbelief
That through his name came war for peace
You hypocrites, I’ll break it down
Don’t think salvation’s coming round

Rome is falling…down

Citadel

Written By: Cela Scott & David Crocco

Seventeen days, I’ve been marching to this cadence
I’ve been fighting off this demon
Can’t seem to bring him down
We’re barricaded
Only one of us is leaving
I’ve got pneumonia and I’m bleeding
I’m never backing down

Seventeen miles, I’ve been shaking off this spector
Diabolic debt collector
Who finally tracked me down
But I’m a Citadel, without an ounce of superstition
I’m all time and all ambition
He’ll be wishing that he never ever came around
He never came around

Histrionics

Written By: Cela Scott & David Crocco

The histrionics
Stop my head, stop my head
(I don’t know what I’m capable of)
The histrionics
Stop my head, stop my head
(I don’t know what I’m capable of)

Sexy clings to me like a sullen sunken moppet
It’s a puppetry I won’t perfect to please their plebey jive
The disconnect occurs between the ever twitching tissues
It’s a visionary’s issue as the cataracts arrive
(Does this light the fire?)
Hey I told you when you got here it wouldn’t take long
(Does this re-inspire?)
Or just a bad re-hash of the same sad song?

The histrionics

The histrionics
Stop my head, stop my head
(I don’t know what I’m capable of)
The histrionics
Stop my head, stop my head
(I don’t know what I’m capable of)

Sexy won’t be sated by the offerings I make it
It’s salacious, complicated, psycho, shallow, uncontrolled
But I’m a shady walker-seeker
Mirror dodger, in-betweener
Concupiscent counterfeit
Cerebral sassy drone
(Does this light the fire?)
Hey I told you when you got here it wouldn’t feel wrong
(Does this take you higher?)
Or just a bad re-hash of the same sad song

The histrionics

Girlfriend

Written By: Cela Scott & David Crocco

I’m not your girlfriend
Just because we did that

Don’t want to hear you calling on my telephone
How come I see you everywhere, don’t you have a home?
You know I have my way with words like I had my way with you
So don’t make me say it son cause I really don’t want to be mean to you

See I can help you out with that secretary fantasy…
But don’t get bent out if that’s the last that you see of me

Leave your expectations where they lay
And don’t sob some story about the way I play
Now you’re weeping and wailing and waiting for your balcony scene
But don’t suffer for your art, you know we’re both part of the same machine

And I can help you out with that secretary fantasy…
But don’t get bent out if that’s the last that you see of me

Not your girlfriend…

I don’t want to see you coming around my door
Saying don’t I owe you just one more
You were in my night, you’re not in my life
Come on and remember the good times baby
You know you’re looking even better when you’re walking away

And I can help you out with that secretary fantasy…
But don’t get bent out if that’s the last that you see of me

Not your girlfriend…
