Bio

The musical group known as I Come Alive began in March of 2012. The music behind the band's first self released album, began two years prior with singer/songwriter, Daryl Douglas. Daryl's musical career spanned across an abundance of local bands. His most successful effort was with a group called The Ride Home. Daryl was the drummer for this band and at the peak of their fame, the band broke up. After that group he played with other groups, but like the other efforts, these bands all eventually broke up as well. In an effort to continue to play music, without the ability to perform live, he began tracking and writing the songs that are the debut album. At this point in time the songs were just a collection of thoughts.

Fate called one evening when Daryl branched out and reconnected with an old friend from a previous band named Jihad Powell. They performed in a group that was formed before involvement with The Ride Home. As members of the previous band, One Banana Shy, they were excited to be engaging in music again. Jihad had a studio in his home, which he opened to Daryl, in an effort to allow him to record a solo EP. That is where Daryl met Eric Foster, who at the time was a band mate of Jihad's and had some recording/engineering skills. Jihad wanted to get a band together for the purpose of jamming. Of course once that happened, the band that was formed was in a very awkward state. They were all dress up with no where to go. Writing was a struggle for the band collectively. Since Eric and Daryl were had worked together briefly in the studio together, the idea appeared to play some of the songs that were already established. Thus the beginning steps towards creating I Come Alive were taken.

Like all newly formed bands they experienced some growing pains. A couple of band members came and went. The lineup was finalized with Daryl Douglas on Guitar/Vocals, Eric Foster on Guitar, Patrick Alfarone on Bass, Marcus Daniels on Brass and Keys, and Edwin Bowman on Drums. Creative differences soon led the band to separate with Edwin. Daryl moved from guitar to fill the void at drums and his wife and companion Jenny was added to take on some of the vocal duties. This fit and worked really well since she was a huge influence behind the music and had been singing with him for years.

The bands sound is the most unique factor of the band. Their tone blends harmonic guitar tones with melodic vocal melodies accompanied by a blend of horns and keys. The singer/songwriter, Daryl, attempts to compose music that is both nostalgic and new. Their genre varies from song to song with a huge degree of continuity. This aspect of their music allows for a large fan base of multicultural and multigenerational listeners to be able to find at least one song that is their favorite.

Since evolving into the entity that it is today, the band has been able to accomplish a lot within its first year of existence in the local scene around Houston. Some highlight shows and venues include Relay for Life Houston, DeerBrook mall, The House of Blues Houston, Scout Bar Houston, Mango's, The Silo, Super Happy Fun Land, Concert Pub North, Acadia Bar, Dean's, Notsuoh, and more. This band will continue to be loyal to its fans and continue doing what it does best: making great music.
