Bio

Post-hardcore seems to be the life-blood of the independent-underground rock scene today. You can feel the urgent tension in dive bars, all-ages hangouts, and skateparks from Buffalo, NY to Summersville, SC to Sacramento, CA. This genre is about to blow – and blow big. At the center of this increasing pressure you will find Idea of Beauty. Idea of Beauty has a gripping and brutally honest sound that when combined with their youthful energetic stage presence puts them in the running to be the poster-children of the genre. Idea of Beauty’s sound can be compared to Hopesfall, Codeseven, The Year of the Rabbit, Sparta, Poison the Well, and The Bled. It is a sound that is as destructively forceful as it is beautifully enchanting. Beyond merely having the songs and the talent to put them at the forefront of the genre, Idea of Beauty also has the creativity and drive to give them longevity and ultimately explode post-hardcore into the stratosphere.

In the winter months of 2002, in the seaside college town of Wilmington, NC, five friends came together to create a sound that would transcend ideas of what was beautiful, change ideas of what was “hardcore”, and destroy ideas of what pop music was supposed to be about. Formed from the ashes of the well-known bands, Pacific Radio Fire and The Falling After, a unique blend of rock, glam, melody, and hardcore emerged and Idea of Beauty was born.

Idea of Beauty is based on two simple ideals that are often forgotten in today’s scene of one-dimensional image whores and cynical hipster-divas: write what you know and play for the fans as often as possible. The combination of these simple concepts gives Idea of Beauty an air of credibility and honesty which is absent from so many groups today. They stay true to these ideals and it is reflected in their growing fanbase. Playing well over 150 shows since December 2002, rarely a weekend has passed where Idea of Beauty has not met the pavement and played another town. Their work ethic is unmatched and their dedication of honing their live show makes them a rising force in the national underground post-hardcore scene. Having played and toured with such bands as Between the Buried and Me, This Runs Through, Beloved, Classic Case, Alli with an I, and Evergreen Terrace; Idea of Beauty has developed an intensely emotional live show that sucks in the listener aurally and visually; and spits them out wanting more.

Recently Idea of Beauty inked a deal with Venge Records. In April of 2004, the Beauty boys entered the studio with producers Eddie Wohl (Anthrax, Ill Nino, Glassjaw, 36 Crazyfists, Dry Kill Logic, etc…) and Mitch Marlow of Classic Case and exited with their long-awaited debut full-length “Dark”. Following the album’s release in June they will hit the road with Oval Portrait for a 30-date East Coast tour. Idea of Beauty will then continue to tour the US off and on throughout the rest of 2004. With the support of Venge, Idea of Beauty will soon be a major force in the national underground post-hardcore scene, and will be on the front lines as the genre surfaces and gouges out a large and permanent section of the mainstream music culture.

Idea of Beauty will tour the US East Coast from June 18th Until July 18th with The Oval Portrait (Eyeball Records). Respond for dates and locations.
