Bio

Biography
Nuyorican actress, dancer, writer, entrepreneur Sergia Perez, Founder and Executive Director of C.R.Y. Productions, has been performing for over 15 years. She was vigorously trained in the genre of message theatre through several performance groups including City Kids and Positive Youth Troupe Musical Theatre Co. Sergia has a B.A. in Theater and a minor in Creative Writing from CUNY City College of New York. But theatre training began way before college at the famous Harlem Theater Company, the Open Cage Theater with Tina Satin (who taught Denzel Washington) and The Pigeon Theater with Anthony Abeson (who taught Jennifer Anistan). Her theatrical characterizations range from Lady in Blue, For Colored Girls to the 2nd House Messenger's riveting depiction in Oedipus the King self-mutilation, to a drug addicted, manic depressive, medical student in On the Edge.

I DIDN'T CRY is Sergia's one-woman signature show, which she performs in English and full Spanish using her bilingual skills to the fullest. She is convinced that art is a method of healing the wounds of the soul and it can be used to facilitate transformation.

Since 2000, the show has traveled to several colleges in the New York area and has been presented at the Nuyorican Poets Café, in the Urban Theatre Festival at the HERE Theatre, the Pulse Theatre on 42nd Street, the National Black Theatre, the 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta, Georgia as well as the Complex Theatre and the LA Women's Theatre Festival at Highways Theatre in Los Angeles.

Thousands in Universities, Junior High schools and High Schools within the Board of Education of New York have seen I DIDN'T CRY since 2003. The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) HIV/AID Prevention Unit has welcomed this performance with open arms. They invited Sergia to perform at the Nurses Health Education Conference in Los Angeles and the Healthy Schools-Healthy People X, 2005 Conference in Sacramento.

Sergia is working on I DIDN'T CRY-the novel requested by students and teachers. She's also working on the screenplay and other film productions that will all be thought provoking and aid in transformation. Her focus is to broaden audience members by touring the piece I DIDN'T CRY all over the world and in doing so help to end the cycle of drug abuse, domestic violence, teenage pregnancy and the spread of AIDS by letting audience members know that they must make a better choice and for all to seek spiritual guidance.
