An Idle fairy tale

… Way out west in the world’s most isolated capitol city, two intrinsically opposed musicians as you are likely to hear of again were to meet. Emily was a classically trained piano virtuoso and Grant was a lead guitarist in a head bashing metal band. Brought together by their mutual desire to explore beyond their respective musical genres they decided to unite under the unassuming name of idle 55.

For nine years idle55 have been composing, recording and performing their unique brand of self styled lounge rock fusion, in which there are no quick fixes or disposable elements, only the exquisite combination of ethereal vocals resting on a driving bed of piano and genre defying guitar.

Their varied career has taken them from the local corner pub to busking on the street corners of Europe, thrilling festival goers and being televised to millions at the Edinburgh Fringe. They have played all over from tiny villages on the Spanish Coast to taking the main stage as special guests of the Ministry of Sound Tour. Running through all this is idle 55’s love of music and performance in all its diversity.

“ …The band displayed instrumental dynamics that had supporters hooting and hollering…loving every minute of it all. It was infectious.”
- Bob Gordon X-press magazine

“The bands eclectic, complex and accessible style which effortlessly mixes elements of funk, blues, rock, pop and folk.”
- The West Australian Music Today

Now idle are again releasing a new recording titled ‘6 degrees’ and have moved to the east coast. The album comes out in November and then idle will be out on the road again where they belong. Loving every moment.
