"Idles"

Second cracking punt at the next guitar band to beak out of Bristol, Idles have all vital ingredients that go into being a great rock band. A more than healthy knowledge of how to have a good time, a great look and some great tunes that don’t really on being overtly polished while at the same time retaining a great indie rock sensibility. Chuck a healthy nod to Joy Division in the mix and you have a band who are on exceptionally solid footing. Catch them on August 14th when Crack take over Start The Bus. - Crack Magazine

"Bristol Harbour Festival @ Thekla"

Idles ply a tautly wound spring of a Thekla show, the coil tightening song by song. XTC's 'Making Plans For Nigel' is recast with new words, and there are competing overtones of The Fall, Joy Division and Brakes. Altogether, the feel of a band formed at the suggestion of a 'So, You Need To Release Some Tension?' project manager in borstal.

"Idles at the Louisiana Dot to Dot Festival Bristol 2010"

As far as opening acts go these guys were pretty epic. The unmistakable lead singer, sporting an undercut and tache, took a light-hearted approach to proceedings joking at the end of the set that they only had one song left but it was rubbish. It certainly wasn't rubbish. Neither was the penultimate song, which they remarkably claimed to write the night before. Genuis. Idles have the toe tapping quality of The Futureheads with a slight whiff of Arcade Fire, especially when the shaggy haired guitarist joined in on backing vocals chanting 'I don't wanna be erased' over and over again. This band look like they should come from Bristol, they're stylish, funny and fresh, but they are actually from the North. Maybe that's what gave them their rock'n'roll edge? The beauty about Dot to Dot is that once the bands have played their often painfully short set they can kick back and catch the other acts which is exactly what Idles did, spending much of the evening at the Academy.

8/10
