I Fight Dragons

I Fight Dragons

BandPopRock

NES-Rock. Powerpop/Rock with Nintendo sounds. The 6 of us play NES controllers, a Power Pad, Zapper Gun, guitars, bass, and drums, along with an 80's TV with Atari backdrop and a talking computer.

Biography

I Fight Dragons is Chicago's finest (and quite possibly only) NES-Rock band. They have very detailed delusions of grandeur, most of which include gross misuses of Nintendo products in combination with music in the Popular Rock genre.

This February, they sold out Chicago's Elbo Room as they self-released their debut EP, "Cool Is Just A Number," which has since gone on to chart nationally at 169 on the CMJ College Radio charts, and been featured across Commercial Radio formats in Chicago, on Alternative Rock (Q101), Top 40 (101.9 The Mix), and Independent Rock (93 XRT).

They use a talking computer a lot, or possibly a talking computer uses them a lot. They were selected as the Best new Chicago band for 2009 by Metromix.com. There are several TVs at all of their shows, occasionally showing people playing videogame versions of their songs, while the band plays the songs live on videogame controllers, and everyone's heads explode.

They played a date on this year's Warped Tour. They tend to release free music to their email list every couple weeks (but you already know, since you're on it, right?). This fall, they'll be branching out from Chicago to tour the nation for 2 months with mc chris. All in all, there are 6 of them, and at least one of them is really really cool, but they haven't figured out which one yet. It's Hari.

"I FIGHT DRAGONS is a High-Def concert experience influenced by an 8-bit video game dream world. They are both an audio and visual powerhouse to have at the club" -Brian Bender, Elbo Room Chicago Talent Buyer/General Manager

“I Fight Dragons’ EP, “Cool is Just a Number,” offers such catchy hooks that “irresistible” feels like an understatement.” -Metromix.com

Lyrics

The Faster The Treadmill...

Written By: Brian Mazzaferri

Sun goes down
Sun comes up
Days can drown in a plastic cup in this town
In this town

Don't know how
Don't know when
Something came but it left again and I'm down
On this town

Cuz no matter what I see
People love to disagree

Every time I say what I want to be
Someone says that's not how it's going to be
Come on baby, quit your dreaming
Grab your things, the train is leaving
Time to pick that somewhere you want to go
Get there quick or drown in the undertow
Come on baby, time is wasting
Choose a wheel and get to racing

Sun goes up
And down again
Hard to stop feeling broken in and worn down
By this town

All the same
You find me here
Placing blame and escaping fear and self-doubt
And this town

But no matter where I go
People love to tell me, "No."

Every time I say what I want to be
Someone says that's not how it's going to be
Come on baby, quit your dreaming
Grab your things, the train is leaving
Time to pick that somewhere you want to go
Get there quick or drown in the undertow
Come on baby, time is wasting
Choose a wheel and get to racing

Every time I say what I want to be
Someone says that's not how it's going to be
Come on baby, quit your dreaming
Grab your things, the train is leaving
And if you feel like nobody understands
You just smile and pray that they clap their hands
Come on baby, drown your sorrow
Work today and live tomorrow
Time to pick that somewhere you want to go
Get there quick or drown in the undertow
Come on baby, time is wasting
Choose a wheel and get to racing

Heads Up, Hearts Down

Written By: Brian Mazzaferri

Take a number, dear
Wait your turn, and don't get out of line
Everything you fear
Paint it black
In the back of your mind
You just go on breathing
Repeating:

Heads Up, Hearts Down
Steady as she goes
Don't break step
Don't make a sound
Heads Up, Hearts Down
No one ever knows
What started this exodus
Onward bound

Your composure slips
Twenty-two and nothing left to do
But resign to this
Bonafide Pilgrim Pride, tried and true so you
Don't question
This lesson:

Heads Up, Hearts Down
Steady as she goes
Don't break step
Don't make a sound
Heads Up, Hearts Down
No one ever knows
What started this exodus
Onward bound

I try to find my strength inside the sound
But I can't fight the darkness all around
I'm bleeding 'til I drown

Heads Up, Hearts Down
Steady as she goes
Don't break step
Don't make a sound
Heads Up, Hearts Down
No one ever knows
What started this exodus
Onward bound

No One Likes Superman Anymore

Written By: Brian Mazzaferri

Strong hands, strong mind
Strong all the time
Straightforward and kind
Too simply defined…

Cuz no one wants to know the man who stands for things we outgrow
He’s too noble and too blind
We’re all older now and we don’t need someone to care about
The innocence we left behind…

(Don’t touch that dial)
(It’s just that goodness is out of style)

Be dark, be cold
(so conflicted)
No hand to hold
(heart constricted)
Dark Knight, bright soul
(we’re addicted)
No room here for the bold…

Cuz no one wants to know the man who stands for things we outgrow
He’s too noble and too blind
We’re all older now and we don’t need someone to care about
The innocence we left behind…

And what if he can fly?
Hey, well so can I
Jet Blue or United Airlines
And who cares if he’s strong
All we see’s the wrong we’ve done
Reflected in his eyes...

Cuz no one wants to know the man who stands for things we outgrow
He’s too noble and too blind
We’re all older now and we don’t need someone to care about
The innocence we left behind…

Money

Written By: Brian Mazzaferri

Green is where it’s at
Green will never let you down
You can bet your life on that
Win the bet and buy a crown

Cuz when pushin comes to shove
Money conquers faith and love
You can buy ‘em up for nothing down

Money makes the world go round and round
Round and around
Money makes the world go round and round
Round and around

Sell your soul at cost
Buy the bar another round
Make yourself the boss
Pay your workers shit and tax the ground

Cuz when money is your friend
Then the party never ends
Hire a crew and you can paint the town

Money makes the world go round and round
Round and around
Money makes the world go round and round
Round and around

(NES Breakdown)

Money makes the world go round and round
Round and around
Money makes the world go round and round
Round and around
