Bio

IFTHEN was chosen, out of thousands of emcees worldwide, as one of four winners of the Dopetracks Mixtape emcee competition that took him to LA to record an album in one week at Phonogenic Studios alongside hip hop great Chali 2na (Jurassic 5).

But let's start at the beginning.

IFTHEN was born into a family of multi-talented musicians (including such names as Malibu, Legal Tender, Tom Phonic, The Spooky Westerns, Left Lane Lemmings, Swim City Rockers, The Monads, and Greta Grits and Gravy)and continues the family legacy forward into new formats and platforms. IFTHEN has been in bands for most of his adolescent and adult life. The most notable was a Saint Louis based ska/rock quartet called The Stash Riders. All while writing, recording, and performing with live bands IFTHEN and his brother TOM PHONIC were creating underground hip hop under the name of THE OLOGY. Their first album "Cracked Up To Be" was mostly introspective experimentalism. With the addition of their cousin emcee SWIMFLOAT DRIFTING in 2004, work on the next installment of THE OLOGY was sporadic at best as SWIM resided in Cincinnati, OH while both IFTHEN and PHONIC were based out of St. Louis, MO. Finally when the distance issues were overcome, the album "Nevermind The Hip Hop, Here's The Ology" was born. THE OLOGY was disbanded when IFTHEN and SWIM moved to Seattle and TOM PHONIC moved to New York. Since then, IFTHEN has been writing, producing, and recording in rapid fire succession completing two solo albums and the SWIM&IFTHEN EP release. Currently, IFTHEN is working closely with SWIM on their new project called "JABBERTALKIE" in Seattle and connecting with various DJs and emcees in the northwest.
