"Part Soul II Soul"

According to Orlando Puerta of Warner Bros Music, she is part Soul 2 Soul, and part Grace Jones. Simply said, Ihsan uses her words to open your eyes to her world. As a black woman, a subway rider, someone in love, as a person… Couple her perspective broadening lyrical content that is defining a different sound that integrates singing, with rhyming, and with the spoken word., you have a lady worth listening to.

Bio

Ihsan sings in the key of the divine feminine. Manhattan born, Jersey bred, and Brooklyn steeped, the East Orange native continues in the body rocking tradition of hiphop songstresses. Ihsan rhymes, sings, and chants down desires and trials that are not always pretty but always provoke thought and move the crowd. As a poet, singer, songwriter, playwright, activist and occasional model, Ihsan houses an amalgam of women under one mind. And then there's the groove. Singing with depth of feeling and bass Ihsan delivers music inspired by hiphop, soul, Senegalese, R&B, and house percussion beats. On stage she channels a Jamaican rude gal sexy style with down-home flava and street wit, to make people wind their waists and bob their heads in unison. Ihsan has performed on the New York spoken word and underground music club scene since graduating from the college. Since she also studied theater at the University of London Ihsan decided she would spread her ideas of love and urban girl philosophy through song, spoken word, and dance. As a singer and poet, she has opened for Isaac Hayes, India Arie, Erykah Badu and more. She has appeared as a featured poet in the Rap the Vote campaign, on Oprah's Oxygen Network and on MTV produced programs. In 2004 she recieved high acclaim in Billboard Magazine for her performances on remixes of Rod Stewarts classic "If you think I'm Sexy". Also an arts educator, she created "Word is Born", a series of hip-hop education youth workshops that were conducted in sixteen New York City public schools in addition to New York University, Barnard College and Alvin Ailey. Now, with a yearning to perform her music across many more stages, Ihsan co-wrote her first self -titled CD, with acclaimed producers and remix guru's Bastone&Burnz, which features her signature club hits "Black" and "Bones". This year Ihsan will embark on the UrbanMentor, FutureNow College Tour as the spokesperson for a nationwide incentive to popularize youth mentoring in America. Influenced by Bob Marley, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Lauryn Hill, Beyonce, and Seal, Ihsan embodies candor and rich vocal resonance. Combining the bluesy funk quality of Jill Scott and expansive imagination of Erykah Badu, Ihsan sends you through her rhythm back to your deepest nature.
