Bio

IKESTRA are 7 musicians from Leeds. Originally formed in 2010 by Joe Harris after attending Leeds College of Music, IKESTRA has been through several personnel changes before settling on the current line-up in early 2011. The musicians have all been active in the Leeds music scene for years and share a mutual love of improvised music.

IKESTRA is Sam Bell (percussion), Sam Gardner (drums), Henry Guy (Bass), Joe Harris (guitar), Tom Henry (keys/synths), Craig Scott (guitar) & Anna Stott (vocals). The band name relates to the oneness symbolised in the 'I' and is in tribute to Sun Ra's legendary Arkestra.

IKESTRA members also play/played for: Haggis Horns, New Mastersounds, Shatner's Bassoon, Katy B, Natalie Duncan, Paper Tiger, Tommy Evans Orchestra, East Park Reggae Collective, Debian Blak, The Root One Band, Bugalu Foundation and Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra to name but a few.
In the past 9 months

IKESTRA have set up a fortnightly residency at local venue Hukaz, and performed at many of Leeds' top music venues. They have also gigged in London (One Taste Festival, The Bedford and Jazz ReFreshed, Mau Mau Bar), Bristol (Start The Bus) and have even caught the attention of BBC 6music DJ Gilles Peterson. They’ve signed up with local independent record label and connoisseurs of the left-field music scene in Leeds, Destroy All Records to bring out their debut self-titled album. A brilliant introduction to a band that are surely one of the most talented yet unsung in the British alternative music scene.
