"Sex and drugs and rock ENL"

Rock group ENL beat hundreds of other unsigned bands last night in a competition to go on a tour with Britpop veterans Dodgy.
The percussion-orientated four-piece beat fellow unsigned finalists Lego Castles, In The Annexe, Cats and Criminals and the Fancy Toys at Camden Town's Barfly in the Metro's On-Line And On-Tour Competition.
The gig was the final of a competition run at www.memusic.metro.co.uk that saw hundreds of unsigned acts nationwide submit their tunes to battle it out for votes by Metro readers.

Dodgy drummer Math Priest, who was one of three judges alongside Metro's Abi Slater and Jon Mclldowie from the Barfly chain, said: 'I really enjoyed all the bands on the evening but ENL were the best - really exciting. We are looking forward to spending time with them on tour.'
ENL drummer Alex Allen said: 'I'm lost for words. We're really looking forward to going on tour - sex, drugs and sausage roll.'
The band, who formed in 2006 and already count Madness frontman Suggs as a fan, have come from all over the globe to make their catchy pop, indie-rock ditties. Alex is half-Scouse, half-French, Greg is half-Filipino, half-American, Shimy is half-Iranian, half-Finnish and Const is half-German, half-Latvian.
Powerpop trio Dodgy are best known for their Nineties hits, Staying Out For The Summer, If You're Thinking Of Me and Good Enough.
The bands will tour York, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Cardiff starting on November 28.

Bio

Eighteen Nightmares at the Lux are a London based band and have a sound that marries all that is good in rock 'n' roll; an infectious blend of catchy riffs, banging beats, fuzzy bass and clever changes has started to draw a lot of attention. Their live event is a pop, cabaret, garagey fusion, if pushed to answer the band describe their sound as ‘Fuzzabilly’.
Whilst still at school under the name ENL the band were getting success first gaining radio play from Steve Lamacq ('Mrs Madam' Demo of the week June 08) and then winning the Metro Unsigned Competition and coming runners up in the Unsigned Heroes Competition. As a result the band went on a UK tour with Indie band Dodgy and gained a single deal through Amazing Tunes and released the track ‘Smile Now Lady’ as a Digital Release. After a short break to finish school and develop the band’s sound ENL were finally revealed as Eighteen Nightmares at the Lux in Feb 2010, when the band self-released their debut EP ‘Fuzz Candy’ as a physical and digital release, launching at Death2Disco (Notting Hill Arts Club). The band’s efforts were rewarded with a bi monthly residency at Alan McGee’s Death2Disco through to the end of 2010. Danny Watson who runs Deathdisco said “I was seriously blown away. I’ve heard stuff but I didn’t expect them to be that tight and also that diverse; at times it was like Rat Scabies drumming for Roxy Music... loved it, pretty bloody amazing.”
The band are supporting Deaf School at the end of January and are set the release their new EP ‘Draw The Curtain’ in Feb 2011, John Kennedy is already playing the lead track ‘Mother of Girl’ on XFM.
