"Redsunband w/ Red Riders & i [love] Space"

Tonight @Newtown was definitely the ticket, and it was good to see a large crowd supporting three of Sydney’s best young bands. Tonight was a bit like the passing of the baton so to speak, as all three bands represent the next generation of talented Sydney acts just waiting to take over. Its a burgeoning Sydney scene
currently with a host of young and exciting acts you’re sure to like.

I Love Space got things under way with a particularly cruisy set. The addition of a wah pedal was welcome to Joel’s guitar sound. I know you’re thinking wahs are bad, but it didn’t sound like a porn-soundtrack, more early Dandy Warhols, which is great, keep the stoner’s choice coming guys. I must admit it wasn’t until I saw the band play a couple of stellar sets in Melbourne that I became a fan. Since then however, I’ve always enjoyed the I Love Space/Red Kross come Dandies rock/pop amalgam. Although the audience was a bit flat, the boys still put on a great opening to the evening. I Love Space are defintely a band doing something more interesting with indie pop in this town.

Bio

Following on from the successes of their debut release Retroceso 1..2..3, which saw lead single ‘6Phase’ gain rotation on JJJ and the band take to the road on a JJJ tour with Youth Group and Bit By Bats, i [love] Space return with a darker, more defined sound on their second official release, birds.attack.

In its first fortnight of release, birds.attack was put on high rotation by FBi (Sydney community radio) and selected by Channel 10 as the soundtrack to commercials to promote television show “The OC” for the week Feb 7th-14th. More recently it has been added to medium rotation on national youth radio, JJJ.

Having secured a line-up change in late-2005, and worked on various remix projects and radio-only singles, the band set to developing a fresh repertoire of sound and melody that more closely reflected new [love] Space personalities. Brooding, aurally sonic indie pop, birds.attack is the first recorded taste of the new i [love] Space.

In addition to touring in support of Youth Group and Bit By Bats, i [love] Space have shared stages with Magic Dirt, Faker, theredsunband, Sounds Like Sunset, Lazy Susan and Daughter Boy Jao (to name but a few). Having started 2006 with a massive single launch party, look forward to another long year of show and sound.
