Bio

IMAN

Iman (born Jacquline Ann Adams on April 25, 1966) is an R&B, Soul, Funk, Jazz, and Neo-Soul pianist, keyboardist, singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer. She is a skilled pianist who begun her classical training at age three. Her musical career was fueled by the influence of her mother and step-father, who was affiliated with the renowned “Stax Records” and “Fame Studios”. Iman spent her younger years in the studio and decided at an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in music. For her, that time has finally come!

Iman’s soon to be released CD “The Iman Experience”, cements old school to new school, past musical eras of the 60’s 70’s and 80’s to the modern eras of the 90’s and 20th century. This is the real deal: exceptional musicianship, A-1 songwriting, first-class production and outstanding songs, adult-oriented (“grown folks”) music.

“The Iman Experience” is a unique sound of vintage and classic soul, soul music with a “touch of funk”, such as: The Philly Sound, soul music characterized by sweeping strings, piercing horns, and orchestration, found in The Motown Sound, and soul music that depicts “phat grooves” and “good ole” southern soul as in The Stax Sound.

Iman credits Patrice Rushen for her signature musical style as well as finding herself being compared to Angela Winbush by being one of the few female artists who is an arranger, producer, songwriter, and musician. Lyrically, Iman’s has an authenticity that can appeal to everyday people. Like Jill Scott, Iman writes about life, personal experiences as well as experiences that she has witnessed, particularly dealing with love and relationships. Like songs of the past, Iman tells stories, she’s not afraid to open her heart and pour out her soul to her audience.

The first single, “I Will Not Cry Over You” one of sixteen cuts Iman wrote on the album, is referred to as “A Woman’s Anthem written by a woman, from a woman’s point of view, for women however, this single is for anyone who has been hurt, lied to, cheated on, dumped, and heart-broken. The powerful emancipating message in this cut is “You done me wrong, but life will go on, I will survive, I will not cry” a modern day reflection of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”.

Iman’s cut “A Good Man is Hard to Find, was written with men in mind, honoring and recognizing men who are “holding it down”, doing what it takes to take care of his family, his children, and please his woman. On the same tip, this song sends a message to the women to appreciate their man for who he is and be thankful if you have a good man because “A Good Man is Hard to Find”.

“The Iman Experience” is filled with sixteen highly diverse cuts, from mainstream R&B-jazz-funk-classical-soul-neo-soul. This CD has it all, an experience, “Iman;s Experience” everyone can relate to and enjoy.
