"Audio: Iman Europe, “Studio”"

After closing out her year with her Snapchat approved “Oakland” video, Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Iman Europe returns for 2016 with her latest dose of soul on “Studio.”
Written by Iman herself and produced by J. Marcell, the cut goes into detailed feelings of another creative in the studio. The songstress commits to staying focused to her own art, but she constantly wonders, “Do you think of me when you’re in the studio?” Flowing through poetic lines of lust, Iman delicately delivers an airy number.
The songstress’ Cocoon is slated to drop during the spring season of 2016, but until then listen to Iman’s “Studio” vibes below. Be sure to cop the single on iTunes. - Saint Heron

"Audio: Iman Europe, “The Devil Be Tryin'”"

Caifornia-based singer/songwriter, Iman Europe releases another soulful record in the wee hours of the night. “The Devil Be Tryin'” focuses on the goodness in her life while still bearing the weight of the world on her shoulders. This reflective track discusses the hardships the world has endured this year as Iman’s sultry vocals call for healing.

The Tesk-produced song was written by the talented songstress as she shares her personal testimony of running to the church after falling short in a world of sin. During rough times, the world could certainly use a little melodic medicine. Check out Iman Europe’s latest below.  - Saint Heron

After the successful release of her 2015 Caterpillar EP, Iman Europe has found herself back in her hometown of Los Angeles, California putting the final touches on her forthcoming follow-up, Cocoon. During the intervening period of time, she has trickled a number of new singles out for fans of her soulful, hip-hop fusion that continue to attract new listeners. Her song "Oakland" received praise from Bay Area faithful, while "So Cool" is one of her biggest tracks to date. This week, the young singer-songwriter has returned with a brand new song that demonstrates her higher level of maturity.  - EARMILK

Iman Europe is the newest branch of the Lauryn Hill inspired artists' family tree; she not only wields a passion for true to life wordplay, but is also gifted with a strong smoky voice. Throughout her five track EP, Caterpillar, Europe's talents are still in the process of maturation and her inspirations are frequently transparent. However, like the insect that lends the project its' name, her potential to create beautiful music has yet to be realized. Even after a number of plays and the ability to move on to more seasoned artists, there was something about Caterpillar that forced me to come back for more. Perhaps it was Iman's vocals, the production, or the lyrics, but most likely, it was the youthful creative energy that ties all those qualities together.

"Rocket" is a boisterous way to open EP and quite the first impression. Iman Europe adopts a jazzy tone, reminiscent of a colder, street hardened Erykah Badu, while an urgent piano and break beat like drum set come together in a wonderful marriage of sound. "Rocket" feels like an anxious, heartfelt attempt at a neo-soul and jazz fusion, which works. Iman and her collaborators—Buda, Grandz, and Beat Butcha (all of whom contributed to the instrumental)—made an intoxicating blend that feels like the urgent youth and streets of Urban America.

Europe's most adventurous and challenging track comes at the conclusion of the EP, with "Wolf Cry." While this track is not the longest on the project, it may be the most emotionally draining of the five. Iman softly sings through near six minutes, spewing out dreary positive lines; the record is a positive message wrapped in the most painful, near heartbroken melodies. It brings to mind another singer/rapper, but from New Orleans, Mary Gold, who specializes in the lo-fi, doom R&B.

Caterpillar  is a short project, roughly close to a half an hour. Iman serves a lot of different styles even in this limited amount of time: from old school New York ("Ice/Cold"), to new age R&B/rap ("Bound To Fly") there is something for everyone. Her versatility is admirable and will be a quality that helps her succeed in the future, at the moment though she still has a few kinks to work out and to figure out what her own sound is going to be. Regardless, Caterpillar is a good EP that will make you want to wait and follow Ms. Europe's next move.

Rising upstart Iman Europe moved back to LA from New York this summer, took her first real trip to Oakland and fell in love. She would go on to make an ode to The Town and released the video for the track today (Oct. 20). The visual for the song is very creative, turning her story on the popular social media app Snapchat into a two minute music video. Fans get to experience the city through the eyes of the new Oakland resident. Europe along with her friends documented all her tour shenanigans.
In her own words: “I wanted to do something different with this video. My main goal was to portray the energy and community they have here in Oakland (which is so rare), as well as the reason I fell in love with this place. I pitched my idea to Luis Montoya, a Bay native of Simphony Productions and he helped bring the video to life. The beat is produced by my in-house producer, Che, who is also a Bay native.”
