Bio
Imany was born and raised in France, her parents are from the Comoros Islands. She grew up near Marseille and went to school outside Paris.
She first learned how to sing in an all-girl military school. And with the school choir she got her training, in singing classical music.
She started to travel the world on her own at age 17 and ended up settling in New York City, where she trained and developed herself.
She gets inspired by African background and by diverse artists such as Tracy Chapman, Bob Marley, Sade, Nirvana, gospel music. And with her eclectic taste and her special voice, she teamed up with Nevaris and the Nolej record family to produce her music.
She’s a singer/songwriter who performs in both languages and describes her music as being a combination of folk, soul and rock.
It's very difficult to put Imany's music in a box, her European and African makes her art something unique.
