Biography

Impure Thoughts are a rock’n’roll band. Originally from Glasgow, they settled in Berlin after periods in Ireland, France, the Czech Republic, and many open-ended European tours. Since coming to Berlin, the band has found a stable line-up, built up a strong fan-base through extensive touring and consistently great live shows in Berlin and around Europe (esp. Germany, Holland, Czech Republic and Lithuania), and developed a rich and varied repertoire of great original songs. The fruit of this is their new album, “Lights Ahead”, which was released on the Cannery Row record label in Germany in March 2006, featuring 14 songs bursting with energy, searing guitars, vocal harmonies and tunes you won’t be able to get out of your head.
Songs from „Lights Ahead“ have received airplay around Europe and notably on Berlin’s Radio 1, where the band also did live sessions and interviews. The album includes a video-clip of the song “Drowning”, which has been shown at film festivals throughout Europe including a screening at the Tate Modern as part of the Noise of Art Festival. “Lights Ahead” will be released in Britain in November, distributed by Proper. accompanied by a European tour.

Take on the World

Written By: Mark Mulholland

Careering headlong through another open door
accelerating into what I turned back from before
laughing, spinning, running, singing, crying out for more
no time to waste in wondering what I am waiting for

Ch/ and I’ll take on the world now you’re standing by my side
now that you’re my girl we don’t have anything to hide

and the wind is in the trees as all the leaves begin to turn
and I’m feeling like a rocket as the fuse begins to burn
I’m trying to decipher all the things that I have seen
I’m waking up from something, tell me, which one is the dream?

Ch/ and I’ll take on the world now you’re standing by my side
now that you’re my girl we don’t have anything to hide

then for a moment time stands still
it’s frozen on the roulette wheel
the bets are placed and I know I’m going to win
then someone coughs and someone laughs
it’s captured in a photograph
the ball is thrown and the wheel begins to spin

now I’m tearing down the walls of all the prisons that I’ve made
and casting off the costumes of all the parts Iplayed
it’s time to leave the shadows, no more waiting in the wings
kiss the sky and wave goodbye and see what fortune brings

Ch/ and I’ll take on the world now you’re standing by my side
now that you’re my girl we don’t have anything to hide

Lights Ahead

Written By: Tony Rose

Got out of town fast as I could go
listening to my friend the North wind blow
flying high above the clouds again
feeling good and free and loose oh yeh

Ch/ Think I’ll take it further down the road
try to keep it rolling somewhere in the flow
don’t look no further than the lights ahead
shining bright through my head

Take me anywhere and I will sing
give me harmonies like bells that ring
hear the music in the engine hum
and see the beauty of a setting sun

Ch/ Think I’ll take it further down the road
try to keep it rolling somewhere in the flow
don’t look no further than the lights ahead
shining bright through my head

Before You Go

Written By: Mark Mulholland

I know this thing we’re having isn’t going anywhere
I can see you’re going your way and I know that I’m not going there
but it doesn’t really matter, it doesn’t mean that I don’t care

Ch/ and I want to let you know
just before you go
how much it means that you stayed with me tonight

When we first met it seemed like nothing could go wrong
a magic moment out of time, but time keeps ticking on
Nothing lasts forever, I guess that would be too long

Ch/ and I want to let you know
just before you go
how much it means that you stayed with me tonight

you don’t know how much I needed to see the sparkle of your smile
to feel your warmth beside me even for a little while
the night is gone, the morning comes, just a feeling left behind

Ch/ and I want to let you know
just in case that it don’t show
how I love to see that look that’s in your eyes

Ch/ and I want to let you know
just before you go
how much it means that you stayed with me tonight
