I Muvrini

BandWorldA Capella

I Muvrini has created a sound unique in world music, establishing them as a standard in traditional vocal ensemble work. Their exquisite Polyohonies, (acapella religious songs), are the basis of their fame. The splendid voices sing to preserve their Corsican language and culture.

France’s first world music band, Jean-Francois and Alain Bernardini’s I Muvrini has been garnering success and accolades for more than 20 years. Adored by the public, twice winner of the “Victoires de la Musique” of Paris (1997 2003), and nominated again in 2006, the group’s unleashed enthusiasm continues to fill concert halls: Bercy, the Zenith, the Olympia, and the countless towns in France and Europe where they have performed. Their traditional one month summer tours on their home island of Corsica, between the French and Italian mainlands in the Mediterranean Sea, attract each year more than 80,000 people (one third of the local population).

The group and its splendid voices have appeared on international stages from Montreal (Francofolies July 1999), to the U.S.A. (summer of 2001), to Johannesburg (spring of 2004, where the last album was partly recorded with Zulu choirs.) The polyphonies, a cappella religious male choirs of incomparable beauty and deep emotion, were the basis of their fame. The voice of Jean-Francois is warm and soft, while his brother Alain’s voice combines purity and formidable power. From tradition and innovation, I Muvrini has created a sound unique in world music, original and exquisite, establishing them as a standard in traditional vocal ensemble work
They sing of their love for the island of Corsica, its paths and its stones, its threatened language and culture, but also of the progress along the road to universality, of people and lands, and ultimately their “dream of unity that puts people together and of diversity that enriches.”

With his signature integrity, Jean-Francois Bernardini created in 2002 the Association for a "Foundation of Corsica," which has already gathered several thousand members, with the goal to serve all men by serving all that’s dear to them, wherever they live, wherever they love, in the fields of culture, environment, education, youth, solidarity, with the goals of contributing to human progress and to the fight against universal sorrow and inequality.

Jean-Francois Bernardini’s literary work consists of several compilations of texts. Most outstanding "UMANI" (human) edited by the famous French editor “Le Seuil” in July 2002, is a strong and poetic work, the cover of which, like the cover of UMANI the album (250,000 units sold), is a picture by the Catalan painter Antoni Tapies. "CARNET POUR SARAH" just came out: it is all delicacy, soft touches, and humor, but mostly a perspective about life and the difficulty of being.

Elected "Man of the Year 2004" by the local press, Jean-Francois Bernardini is one of those rare men, whose music and lyrics are useful to the world. With intelligence, humanity, generosity and a simple manner that neither celebrity or time alters, he only works, writes and sings, with that same aim, compelling admiration and respect.

Since 2004, I Muvrini have recorded in their private studio in Corsica. They have collaborated with such musical luminaries such as Jacques Dutronc,Veronique Sanson, Nana Mouskouri, Stephan Eicher, MC Solaar, Sting, Lais, Ute Lemper, Florent Pagny, Angelo Branduardi, Luis Llach et Dan Gararibian, Haris Alexiou, and Sarah Brightman.

Their last concert at Le Zenith in Paris in December 2005 attracted 15,000 fans.

Those who have the power to move us and to get us together this way also show us the keys to the future.....
