Biography

In A Circle is an up and coming Americana string duo from Northeast Ohio. Formed in late 2009 the duo is composed of Tino Navarra & Dustin Underwood. The two have been playing together for several years, but this most recent incarnation is a new and refreshing look into American country music. Their style varies heavily from rock & roll and blues to bluegrass and folk. Currently they are living in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York and working on their first full length album.

The duo perform original and traditional songs with a radical approach to their music and songwriting. They have recently finished recording their debut album at Ante Up Studio's in Cleveland, Ohio. The EP was released in early June in Ithaca, NY.

The band has spent the summer of 2010 writing and recording for their new album and are currently booking Fall performances as well as a Winter tour. The newest lineup includes Mike Greenberg on dobro, pedal steel, and percussion.

In A Circle is currently performing as a duo/trio.

Cokeburg Black-Lung Blues

Written By: Dustin Underwood

When I was just a boy – my momma told me son - You had better get off the farm – I don’t wish it on anyone
Go into the town – make something of yourself - Well I was just eleven when I started goin' -

Down down down – into the mine
And its hard hard hard - now, working all the time - Cause its dark when I get up – its dark down in the mine - Its dark when I get off – and it feels like I’m sinking all the time

I was apprenticed to a man – with a hundred acre land - And we worked from dawn to dark – till i couldn’t lift my hands
His wife taught school in town – but she taught me at home herself -
It was 1913 when I started goin'

Down down down – into the mine
And its hard hard hard - now, working all the time - Cause its dark when I get up – its dark down in the mine - Its dark when I get off – and it feels like I’m sinking all the time

Well I married me a wife – and we had a family - And we all ate at the store – of the mining company
Then the hard times came around – and there weren’t work all the time
But I never thought I’d pray - to get back -

Down down down – into the mine
For its hard hard hard - working all the time - Cause its dark when I get up – its dark down in the mine
Its dark when I get off – and it feels like I’m sinking all the time

Now back in 42’ – I got myself a gun
I bought myself some land – and I started up a farm - Well it seems like all this time – Ma must of had it wrong - Cause a man can’t work all his life – just to barely get along

And I can still remember goin'

Down down down – into the mine
And its so hard hard hard- working all the time - Cause its dark when you get up – its dark down in the mine - Its dark when you get off – and it feels like you're sinking all the time

Ohio Song

Written By: Dustin Underwood

Goin back to old Ohio where the buckeye trees are growin' wild - Im heading to a place Ive called my home - Where the faces and the folks I know and the places that I know have grown and what it is that brings me here well I dont know

Goin' Home - Goin' Home
Im heading to a town Ive called my home so many times before
Goin' Home - Goin' Home
To that northeast valley in old Ohio

And its been years since ive been here but its getting mighty clear to
me that no matter how long Im gone somethings don't change And those hardluck goodtime friends of mine their sittin' round familiar fires just singing songs and playing along tonight

And just the ghosts of these old freight trains and the haunted memories remain of times when things werent so tough - But when the moonshine comes out tonight lighting this field by firelight them haunted memories soon will fade

The Mill

Written By: Dustin Underwood

Seven days a week I drive this street
To a factory by the river where I mill the wheat
300 days with no raise in pay
I can't remember the last time I could say that

Tommorrow's gonna be a brighter day
A time to throw all your fears away
but the headlines on the paper's say
that we should always be afraid
in this spinnin' world that is bound to change

Tommorrow comes December
and December comes the snow
The last five years just seemed to come and go
Swing shift straight 24 hours a day
and I can't remember that last time I felt sane but

Tommorrows gonna be a brighter day
A time to throw all of our fears away
but the headlines on the papers say
that we should always be afraid
In this spinnin' world that is bound to change

Jake and I

Written By: Dustin Underwood

Barefoot - side of the road
Just outside of Mobile
I've been stuck here in a daze
Wishin' for the rain to come
And wash this sun away
Just wishin' for the rain to come
And wash my blues away

Cardboard signs - Northbound to Kentucky
I lost my mind and now Im stuck here
I've been stuck here in a daze
Just wishin' for the rain to come
And wash this dirt away
Been stuck here in a daze
And wishin' for the rain to come
And wash this sun away

Now Jake he says - It won't be too long now
Just pull your old guitar out
And we'll all sing along
Cause we've been stuck here in a daze
Wishin' for the rain to come
And wash this sun away
We've been stuck here in a daze
Just wishin' for the rain to come
And wash our blues away

Same Old Sad Story

Written By: Dustin Underwood/Tino Navarra

Whose woods these are I don't know
his house is in the city though so far away
And the poor kids next door bare feet on the ground
in ten years will remember when those woods were around
Now my best friend left home just a year before
its that same old sad story he's gone off the war
That we all know

Well don't you know - how that story goes
Said don't you know - how that story goes

So pour me another round cause I think Im sinking down
there's something's in this life - better to let go
Cause some friends are here - some friends are gone
some friends are near and some friends are far
but the corn fields are still standing tall
They say the factories are closing shop and shuttin' down
its the same old sad story in this old town
That we all know

Don't you know - how that story goes
Said don't you know - how that story goes
