Finally, we have a CD in our hands to serve as the hard copy companion to one of Brisbanes most inspiring live acts. Coated with a strong sci-fi flavour, i nation are among the more unique acts around these parts, providing a strong cybernetic skeleton upon which to build their melodic but heavy tracks. While the live shows tend to emphasize the crunch this band is capable of delivering, the cd comes across as a more dynamic beast, sounding like a mixture of Pretty Hate Machine, NIN, Filter, Ocean Machine and touches of KMFDM. Whilst I may not appreciate the keyboard patches used, the production, presentation and strong melodies of this disk definitely make it one of the best local releases I have heard.

Local 4 - piece Imagine Nation have been gigging around the traps for a few years now and have built up a loyal following. 'Splendid Isolate' is the bands long-awaited and much overdue debut E.P. The tracks are all live favourites and showcase i nation's hard-hitting, electronic-edged rock. Imagine Nation is essentially the work of lead singer Dylan (some may remember his previous work as 'Mindshaft'), who wrote and produced all the tracks on the EP and also played/programmed all the instruments. This new release from Queensland act Imagine Nation really tears it up! With numerous live performances under their belt (hence tight performance), these guys have produced an excellent recording we just had to plug on the site.

If you happen to enjoy 80's synth work, sensitive and/or aggressive vocals, brutal guitar and hard hitting drums... then this is a real treat.

There are five beautifully mastered tracks within, clocking in at a little over 20 minutes music, and the 20 minutes show so much variety! The distinct Australian feel is comforting, yet flowing progressions between almost pop like ingredients and heavy as hell contrasts make it clear that I Nation is doing something new, and creating a decidedly original blend of sound.

Our favorite on the disc is the last track "I Nation", where a buzzing synth line breaks dramatically into some threatening vocals and chunky guitar riffs. The whole performance is streamlined and seamless... an incredible feat given the sonic ground being covered. Drama builds towards the epicenter of the track bursting forth into more guitar and vocal depth, spread between some excellent light synth sections.

There are a couple of things for sure... not many artists push boundaries like this, and not many do it nearly this well. Imagine Nation know their stuff, and we can't wait to catch them live!

...i nation immediately dominated the scene with their brand of heavy synth-rock. Their colossal riffs got the guys bangin', while frontman Dylan won over the ladies hearts with his sweet voice and 'born to rock' stage presence.
i nation played through a strong set of songs with each one containing enough unique flavour so their perspective was not lost when viewing the overall piece. One can't help but ask thyself - when will they be fitted with the larger stages that their music does so deserve?

A well-kept secret is that i nation are supporting Nightwish, but this enigma self-destructs in the glorious décor of The Tivoli, as the trio teach this crowd a lesson in rock-screaming-roll. Local cyber-metal-rockers Ination have been doing the Brisbane live scene for the best part of this decade, during which they have encouraged more than their fair share of enthused mosh pits and drunken debauchery. After watching this band perform material that is simply too large for the stages that try to contain them for too long, their debut album ‘Sounds from the Sea’ has finally washed upon our shores. Dylan Nation writes, performs and engineers this piece, which explores one man’s struggle through the dual forces of power and vulnerability. Expansive synths duck and weave over hard structures of rhythmic guitars and pounding drums, before they all unite into one force that travels with such intensity it looks bound to disappear into the horizon. The package is complete as both art and music give the sense that endless movement is destined no matter the obstacle that bounds us or blocks our path. Brisbane-based openers i-Nation, infusing their 1990s industrial-metal palette with the diverse textures and hook-laden sensibilities of modern melodic metal (Cog, Karnivool etc), perform excellently. It is a testament to the band’s experience as a live act (having previously supported Finnish Goth-rockers HIM, among others) and their polished, immediate songwriting that, despite the vast stylistic differences of the headliner, they deliver an ideal support set; intensifying the crowd’s anticipation, while delivering a lasting musical experience of their own. - Time Off Magazine
