A stream of unique and individualistic singles collated on the ‘Smoking Gun’ EP, released in June, have cemented Indiana as one of the UK’s most exciting and intriguing emerging voices. Her videos have enjoyed a viral groundswell that has seen them rack up a total of over 1 million views on YouTube alongside acclaim across the blogosphere and being championed by Zane Lowe, Rob Da Bank, Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and Phil & Alice among others on Radio 1. Indiana also marked her Glastonbury debut with a triumphant set at the BBC Introducing stage.
Another highlight came when Indiana was hand picked to play a special show in front of none other than The Queen of England to celebrate the opening of the new BBC Broadcasting house. She performed a rendition of ‘Heroes’ by David Bowie alongside Irish rockers The Script and the performance was broadcast live on air from the BBC Live Lounge Studio.
‘Mess Around’ is another showcase of Indiana’s ability to create mesmerizing and enveloping worlds within her songs. It sees her simultaneously fragile and powerful voice set to a backdrop of haunted down tempo electronic soul and spacious, reverberating guitars that echo the aural space somewhere between Portishead and the xx, with the video for the track further channeling its darkly enticing subject matter.
