"EP Review: Indigo Moon // Indigo Moon"

Liverpool-based psychadelic-rock band, Indigo Moon, recently released their self-titled debut EP. Their genre being self described as “Mersey psych rock with hair on its chest and a cherry on top”, Indigo Moon are passionately diverse, combining countless eclectic musical elements and rolling them into one.

The 3-track project is dominated by funky baselines, jangling guitar work and rolling synths. Gorgeous, silky vocals from Ash Colley fall rapidly into a full, dramatic sound and fall back out again just as quickly, creating an unusual undulating element within the opening track, ‘Inescapable’. Unexpected, dramatic drops and heavy vocals in this track lend themselves to the abnormality of the EP as a whole. The song ends on a jangling keyboard and guitar riff which blends directly into the intro of the following track, ‘Running Circles’.

The EP is both sonically and instrumentally dense; the typical drums, synths and guitar are accompanied by various additions. Talented vocals range from smooth highs to strong, dramatic lows. Their sound as a whole is dominated by chilled beats and off-kilter melodies, and while it may not get your foot tapping, it with invariably catch your attention. There are times nonetheless when the multitude of symphonic elements becomes slightly cacophonic, and the songs occasionally fall into repetitive ruts. These few faults however, are made up for by their unique style and full, well-produced sound.

‘Uncertain’ leans more towards the rock side of the spectrum. A banging electric guitar intro slowly strips down to simply percussion and bass before building back up once more. Despite the slightly misleadingly rock ’n roll intro however, the song is primarily dominated by their characteristically tinkling sound.

Indigo Moon’s eclectic roots set them far apart from most of the alternative psychadelic-indie outfits of today, and with the amount of talent they have under their belts they will no doubt be making waves in the alternative music industry in no time. - The Indiependent

"5 New Tracks You HAVE To Hear This Week - Indigo Moon - Running Circles"

Liverpool’s majestic psych-rockers Indigo Moon are back with silky new track ‘Running Circles’. Joyously innovative and forever captivating with their unorthodox song styles and often off-kilter jaunts, the quintet’s newbie doesn’t disappoint. Ashley Colley’s smooth and assured vocal, ranging from dominant highs and dramatic lows sits pleasantly alongside funky basslines and shoegaze tinged guitar flickers to great effect.

Nailing them down to any specific style is disrespectful, the often ambiguous nature of their instrumental jerks keeps you on your toes in ways that only their sound can. Luscious groover ‘Running Circles’ brings things down a notch from the punchier, guitar-led sound of previous EP snippet ‘Uncertain’ and is another bow to Indigo Moon’s creative variety.

‘Running Circles’ is available now and features on Indigo Moon’s upcoming self-titled EP. - The Indiependent

"Liverpool band Indigo Moon to support Blues Pills at the 02 Academy"

Forming two years ago, psychedelic rock band Indigo Moon have kept themselves busy recording, gigging regularly and building up an ever-growing fan base. Catching the attention of varied audiences, their music not only appeals to the younger generation of rockers, but is also expanding out and targeting all ages.

It is no surprise that they have now landed themselves a slot supporting American-Swedish-French quartet Blues Pills at O2 Academy 2 on the 29th July. The hype around the blues rock giants soared over the last year and they’re now embarking on a UK tour.

Indigo Moon are hoping to use this gig as a platform for potential new listeners for their upcoming self-titled EP, which was recorded by a talented producer at Blossom Audio. The EP channels heavy rock and roll alongside dreamy psychedelia as the band brings an eclectic mix of influences into their music.

In light of getting the coveted support slot for Blues Pills, organized by GS promotions and Rubberneck, the band are bringing forward the release of their EP track Uncertain and are planning to make it a free download for two weeks prior to the gig.

Indigo Moon are thrilled to be part of the night and look forward to showcasing their talent. Tickets are available from the O2 Academy website or at their box office. - Liverpool Echo

"Band Feature; Indigo Moon"

Forming just short of two years ago, psychedelic rock group Indigo Moon have been building up a fan base consisting of not just your typical rock fans, but an audience of all ages and musical interests. When listening to them, the immediate attention of the listener is directed to the lead female vocal; a powerful and striking voice from Ashley Colley, which captivates the audience with a unique blend of Rock, Blues and Soul tones all blended into one stunning and certainly pleasing sound.

Backed up by drums, bass, two electric guitars and the occasional input of synth; the band appear to compliment each other’s heavy effects and loud noises rather than get lost in one another which is an easy mistake to make with this genre of music. Watching them live is a definite must as the energy they expend when on stage is more than admirable. They connect with the crowd not just through the use of some catchy lyrics and appealing riffs; but by making themselves accessible; something that many young aspiring bands fail to do. With them it’s not just about playing what sounds good and writing songs they know will be a hit with a crowd; it’s about thriving off the audience and ensuring they are enjoying themselves just as much as we are.

It’s no wonder that they have managed to land themselves a supporting slot at the O2 academy 2 on July 29th with self described ‘American- Swedish- French quartet’ Blues Pills. With over 70,000 fans on Facebook; it’s set to be a big show for Blues Pills and support acts RavenEye and of course, Indigo Moon.

The band gig regularly at an assortment of venues not just in Liverpool. They have recently been in Stoke-On-Trent recording their forthcoming self-titled EP with talented upcoming producer Sam Bloor at Blossom Audio. The full EP will not be released until the Autumn, but luckily enough one of the tracks ‘Uncertain’ has been released early and is currently available for free download.

The three track EP has been brilliantly crafted, capturing the bands raw sound and reflecting their on-stage energy; something which is particularly difficult to do when recording. ‘Uncertain’ opens with a distorted guitar riff that in some ways has a Pop vibe to it. Dropping down to just drums and bass before the first verse enters, the bass guitar plays an 8 bar catchy riff which forms the foundation of the verse. As the vocals enter, it almost feels as if the listener is been taken off into a dream world as the silky sound of the vocals accompanied by the 12th fret arpeggio of the guitar displays the diversity that all the band members uphold.

As the chorus kicks in with the original guitar riff, the strong and powerful vocals enter, really capturing the unique sound of the band and reassuring the audience that the punchy Rock and Roll elements are still present within the song. The simple yet catchy lyrics enable the crowd to connect with the band and also implant the song in their minds- ‘Only certain, I’m still uncertain’- not exactly extravagant lyrics; but it doesn’t seem to matter as the simplicity actually compliments the music and steers the focus more onto the tone of the vocals and also the guitars rather than what is actually being said. This alters within the second verse as again; it drops down to just bass and drums for the first half of the verse which allows the attention to focus more on the vocal line; this ultimately giving each member a time to shine.

After hearing ‘Uncertain’, it’s safe to say that high expectations are in place for the rest of the EP which will be released this coming autumn. But if you can’t wait until then, make sure you purchase a ticket for their gig at the O2 academy at the end of the month- it’s certainly going to be one to remember. - Liverpool Noise

"Indigo Moon - Studio 2 Liverpool w/ Venus Demilo"

Next up was psychedelic rock outfit Indigo Moon. I’ve heard great things bouncing around campus about this band, and I wasn’t disappointed. Indigo Moon blend grit with just the right amount of honey – probably not too tasty for tea, but awesome on the ears. That, combined with a seamlessly ‘together’ performance, definitely makes me keen to see more of them in the future. - Ellipsis

Bio

INDIGO MOON are a Liverpool based psychedelic rock quintet whose unique sound and  live performances have been turning heads in the north west for the last 4 years. Off-kilter yet progressive and dynamic rhythm is soaked in washes of hazy ambience and soaring vocals, interrupted only by aggressive hooks and trigger-happy riffs. Their place amongst the innovative artistic canon dwellers of Merseyside is being eagerly eyed.

"Soulful soaring vocals stand out and wash over you in a haze of rhythmic psychedelia, whilst keeping one foot firmly in its roots of Blues and Soul." - Fred Perry Subculture.

So far, their life span is brimming with enthusiasm and drive to write, record and perform regularly and the run up to this new release has followed this ethos closely by extensively presenting their live show to audiences across the city of Liverpool and beyond. Their front woman, Ash, whose furiously charismatic persona not only carries the whole band and simultaneously draws the audience in, fuelling the band’s performances. The dual force of guitarists Bradley Malbon and Adam Dixon work in tandem to create gigantic tones and soundscapes that pair tastefully with the intricate but dynamic rhythm section courtesy of Hannah Lodge and Lisa Fawcett.

Indigo Moon have undertaken a number of amazing opportunities including the chance to support some both nationally and globally recognised artists. Their first taste of this took the band to the iconic Unity Hall, Wakefield in support of ‘Post War Glamour Girls’. Here, the bands performance and music flourished on the big stage. This helped to provide the confidence and ambition to give an electrifying performance when supporting blues rock giants ‘Blues Pills’ at Liverpool’s 02 academy, a gig which resulted in widening the bands fan base and introducing them to some of the major participants in the blues/psych rock scene. More recently the band have brought their music to festivals such as Threshold and FestEVOL as well as opening for Deap Vally at the end of 2016.

2017 will see the band release their brand new E.P. ANATOMY as well as a launch show at HUS on March 30th and appearances a WRONG and Threshold festivals.
