Listening to Indigo Soul is like listening to a RocknRoll prism---each song is a splash of color in the musical continuum.
Songwriter/Lyricist/Singer/Genius Mark Protus first hits us with his Velvet Hammer and we cant help but like the exquisite La Petite Morte or Little Death. We are next splashed with Good Enough and weigh ourselves on the scale of self-doubt; a scale were all familiar with. Following in our palette is the rapid All in a Moment---a snap-shot song set to a beating heart describing the almost-gone feeling of the perfect instant we wish to savor again and again. Everything I Need is the ideal balancing act between a RocknRoll Ballad and Love Song with a Country Twist. Warriors Dream is a whispered conference all about that, falling right into the hypnotic Blow You a Kiss---probably the most commercially appealing cut on the CD. Although outwardly mesmerizing with an up beat, Anybody Else? has moving lyrics of self-exile, trust issues and asks the question How did I get this way? Red is the color of blood, but even when the wounds heal, My Body Knows. In this rhythmic song the wages of war arent always obvious---but they are telling. With The World is Melting, tucked between some heavy guitar we see some fresh green or something the Spanish call Esperanza or Hopeless Hope. In a world going to hell there is something to live for.

Indigo Soul was created from a diverse group of musicians. These "Musician's musicians" harness a Woodstock-Generation-meets-70's-album-oriented-classic-rock sound with a distinctive appeal to rock fans over 40. "I Feel" has a guitar-driven groove reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd with great performances on both lead and backing vocal's that draws easy comparison to post-Peter Green Fleetwood Mac. One of the groups' best songs, "Your Face of Love," brings Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" favorably to mind, while the vocals of singer, Mark Protus sound similar to Marty Balin's work on Jefferson Airplane's classic album, "Surrealistic Pillow." Very melodic, song-based rock that's in no way enslaved to any current trends, Indigo Soul offer a refreshing break from modern pop that sounds like it came from a can. - by Gail Worley, rock critic

Indigo Soul are true performers and put on a terrific live show. They have played at numerous venues and festivals throughout the northwest.
The song “Velvet Hammer” (from the Warriors Path CD) received national radio airplay and was in regular rotation on several internet radio stations.
Indigo Soul is featured in the upcoming indie film “Lost on the B Side.” Directors Ltd. chose the band for both musical and speaking roles and feature our song and video “A Long Time” in the film and the soundtrack.
Indigo Soul can perform as a solo act, filling an evening with unique sets of original music and some selected covers. They also work well with other bands to round out an evening of entertainment in many styles of rock.
Indigo Soul often performs live with a sign language interpreter/dancer and attracts deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences to their shows.

Indigo Soul is the alter-ego of Seattle-based singer/songwriter Mark Protus. As an ambitious youth in the late 70’s, Mark dreamed of fame and fortune while developing his songwriting skills in the bands Upstanding Members and Soup, Rope, Gun.
By the mid-eighties, Mark abandoned his quest for fame (along with his instruments and principles) and picked up a computer to seek his fortune in the land of Hi-Tech. It took Mark several years to realize that the constant burning in his belly was not acid reflux, but an intense and unfulfilled passion to create music.
After a couple of solo CD releases, Mark formed the band Warriors Path and released a CD with a stellar line-up that included former members of the Doobie Brothers and Chicago.
One constant on all of Mark’s CDs was his collaboration with engineer and keyboard wiz Mark Bader, who he met at a songwriters gathering in Seattle. Mark Bader joined the band in 2002 and they performed several shows with various line-ups, eventually recruiting the talents of lead guitarist Dean Richardson and vocalist Lisa Dawson.
In 2004, Warriors Path morphed into Indigo Soul, released the CD Wake UP! and enlisted the remainder of the group, bassist David Salwitz and drummer Pete Harris.
Music critics descibe the Indigo Soul sound as "very melodic song-based rock that’s in no way enslaved to any current trends." The band combines smart and thoughtful lyrics with "fresh sounds and catchy and soulful classic-rock styles."
The band gets its name from a psychic reading Mark once had in which he was told he had an indigo aura and soul. It is rumored that on full-moon nights, you can see Indigo colors flickering like fireflies in his hair.
