Bio

Every pleasure has peaks and valleys, familiar territory mixed with new discoveries, and ultimately, climaxes. The best of these experiences merge different yet complementary ingredients, creativity, and improvisation within a defined structure - all leading to satisfaction…and a desire to come back for more. Indigo Sunset, the hip Atlanta-based funk-jazz band is like good food and better sex in exactly this way.

The brainchild of John Beal (keys), Indigo Sunset is a brotherhood of accomplished musicians with varied artistic influences, who initially only played together casually. After sensing that their combined talents could create a unique sound and sensibility, just one year ago the friends set out to seriously raise the stakes of live performance, songwriting, and musical production. Their sound can be described as beautifully structured chaos, a dynamic blend of spices, sounds, and stimuli - jazz, pop, hip-hop, funk, and rock captured seamlessly within recognizable song structures.

In lesser hands, all these influences coming to together would be nothing but confusion, but Indigo Sunset is just the opposite. As with a great meal or a night of passion, there is an emotional connection that they automatically create with their growing fan base. Anybody that experiences the voices of Jason Sylvain (The Crooner), Kyle Williams (The Virtuoso), and Tony Hightower (The Chameleon) will attest to the energy and versatility they bring to each performance, taking an 'outside of the box' approach to every song. Anchored by John on keys, propelled by Tom Young's bass, embellished by Tré (Trü.ski) Peterson's beats, rhymes and complimentary vocals, held solid in the pocket by PJ Spraggins on drums, and pushed to the edge by Kyle's guitar virtuosity, Indigo Sunset is like the good things in life all at once, in just the right amounts.

Watching the band play together is like seeing telepathy at work - they caress every high note and stretch breaks and chord transitions to the limit, trusting each other's skills so much that they ebb and flow with a Zen-like ease. Indigo Sunset's live performances always elicit audience participation, from church-like Amens, to dancing in the aisles, to throwing money, or simply singing along.

Many live performing and touring bands with dynamic show energy have failed to capture their magic on wax. So John approached Indigo Sunset's self-titled CD project methodically, outlining the mood and theme for every song. Every member of the band took those ideas and upped the ante by writing and recording songs that eclipsed the original intent. Ultimately, Indigo Sunset has harnessed their electricity and sense of organic creativity, while still creating an unforgettable sound and cohesive narrative for the entire project. "Our finished CD is so much better than what I originally imagined because we each brought our own musical tastes and influences to the project, and we collaborated in an environment where everyone's best input floated to the top. From Tré's hip-hop/alternative tracks, to Kyle's guitar riffs, to Tony's ability to sing anything like he was born doing it, the Indigo Sunset CD is this thousand piece puzzle that when finally put together, is completely different, yet better than the picture on the box."

Indigo Sunset is the best parts of that meal you crave or the sensual encounter you daydream about: merging unexpected 'flavors' and surprising 'sensations' to create a taste and a feel - an emotional and invigorating sound that leaves you satisfied, yet wanting more.
