"In Due Time"

by Ryan Edwards

I’ve been to Herman’s Hideaway many times, and the quality of musicians and music that come through its doors, never disappoint. In Due Time is an eclectic group of musicians, who blend multiple genres into a funky jam band that the audience found impossible not to get into. “When it gets down to it, we play funk. It’s really funky music,” said Beau Bohlen, (guitar/vocals).

The band is made up of Antonio Domenick (trombone/keys), Kyle Jerome (saxophone), Corey Garretson (bass guitar), Ethan Williams (lead guitar), Beau Bohlen, (rhythm guitar), Kelsie Bedard (lead vocals), Michael Russel (drums), and Ruth Nichols (trumpet). This assembled cast of musicians went to Lakewood High School together, began the band in 2008, and has since played all over Denver and the Front Range. Venues like Larimer Lounge, Cervantes’ Other Side, D Note, AF Rays in Greeley, and the Dark Horse in Boulder, have experience their unique sound, which is a collection of rap, rock, funk, indie and even Spanish music.

“D Note is our favorite place to play because we always get awesome sound. The people who work at, and own, the D Note are really friendly, and we always feel that the crowd (even people who don’t know us) is enjoying our sound,” says Domenick, commenting on their favorite venue to play live. Their shows involve every band member singing with different styles.

Including everything from Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown covers, as well as a their own collection of originals, In Due Time gets the audience out of their seats and dancing with songs that represent not only themselves, but Colorado as well. Songs such as “I-25,” which complains about the traffic in Colorado, or “Beer Run,” a term used to get beer before or during a party. “Beer Run is the favorite of our songs, because it’s fun to play and sing, and showcases the things we do well: funky groove, a cappella vocals, cool horn lines, and fun subject matter,” said Domenick.

In Due Time stands out in the Colorado music scene, because it’s rare to find a large group of musicians that string different types of music together and make it sound, not only good, but damn good. “You don’t see a lot of big bands playing our music, you’ve gotta search for it.” Bohlen said. While the group is experienced in the Colorado music scene, their ambitions want them to go further. They’re launching an EP in the fall, and looking to play festivals and tour next summer. “We think we have a lot of creativity and soul to offer, and we want as many people to hear us as possible,” says Bohlen. With their original style, success is sure to follow. - Colorado Music Buzz Magazine

"Haiti Benefit Show with In Due Time"

Forget Wyclef -- local singer-songwriter and all-around badass Alicia Fall has been raising funds for Haiti (and, ahem, not squandering them) since March 2009, when she founded the social-profit organization Her Many Voices, which is dedicated to helping citizens in developing countries around the world. Specifically, Fall has her eyes on a village in Haiti, Trou ChouChou, and through Her Many Voices, she's providing clean water and sustainable energy for the village, one step at a time.
Since founding the organization, Fall has provided emergency and life-sustaining supplies to the villagers of Trou ChouChou, and she has an excellent grasp -- provided by the villagers themselves -- of the resources desperately required in the village. Engineer Wayman Carter is involved in an innovative and unprecedented water and energy project, and Her Many Voices has already helped Trou ChouChou build a much-needed community school with fourteen teachers and 357 students, from pre-school through high school.

But it's not all work and no play; on Saturday, December 17, Fall is hosting a family-friendly benefit concert starting at 7 p.m. at D Note, 7519 Grandview Avenue in Old Towne Arvada, with a $5 to $10 suggested donation instead of a cover charge. August on the Equator and Dr. Harlan's Amazing Bluegrass Tonic will be playing tunes, as will local funk/ska band In Due Time -- which will also be recording the set live for an upcoming album. There will also be live performance painting by Laurie Maves. And kids are welcome at the festivities; bring them for pizza and dancing, a perfect way to wear them out on a Saturday night. The ear and eye candy on the night's agenda will be more than worth your time and hard-earned dollars -- and after all, 'tis the season for giving to those less fortunate.

"The proceeds will go to helping to work with the women and children in Trou ChouChou," says Fall, "bringing education and resources to the village." So your money will be well spent. - Westword

"In Due Time Shakes Heads at Herman's"

posted by Tim Wenger

Every once in a while I see a band that makes me remember that I am a hack musician. I can’t sing in perfect harmony, I don’t write music that it so good that it seems to taunt the audience with its epic-ness, and I sure as hell didn’t study music in college (in fact I tried, but failed Music Theory 1).

I was forced into humility on Saturday night watching Denver’s own In Due Time at Herman’s Hideaway. The band is an eight piece, an octo-array of talent that includes a full horn section, three strings, keyboards, and eight vocals. Watching them set up and sound check might make one feel as though they are at some kind of a parade, as the band members don nice but still somewhat dorky outfits and hats, and check the levels on the microphones like they are warming up for an American Idol auditon. I’m almost certain that I saw a fanny pack in the mix.

And once they start playing, it is impossible to wipe the smile off your face. Both Ethan Williams and Beau Bohlen rip up the guitar with funky, danceable rhythms and fantastic leads. The way they divide up the vocal duties is phenomenal with Tony Domenick, Kelsie Bedard, Corey Garretson and Bohlen all sharing lead vocal duties. Someone known for a frog in the throat would have no chance in this band. It is even better when considering their humorous songs, “Rubber Chicken,” Beer Run” and “Hell No” being only a few of the funnier ones, it must have taken quite a bit of practice to be able to not bust up laughing in the middle of a verse. They’ve got the humor of Tenacious D and an evolving talent that hits you like Streetlight Manifesto had a baby with Herbie Hancock.

The three piece horn section, consisting of Domenick on trombone, Ruth Nichols on trumpet and Kyle Jerome on saxophone, added a welcome flavor of ska to their sound, making the funky goodness thrown down by drummer Mike Russel even that much more danceable.

These guys will not disappoint, it is a great show to take a date or a group of your friends that feel like doing some drinking. At times I felt like I was watching the Basic Cable Band, but instead of sitting lazily on my couch I was pulled briskly to the dance floor to shake and clap move like a bumbling idiot. In Due Time made me realize that I am worse at dancing than I am at playing music, but by this point I was having so much fun that I didn’t care. After tonight, I guess I’ll just stick to writing.

Bio

Blaring horns. Funky rhythm section. Hot singers. And a room full of dancing people. In Due Time makes a groove so fat, it wears Al Roker’s old clothes, a jam so tasty, your grandma puts it in her ambrosia, and a beat so hot it makes Beelzebub sweat. The six piece Denver funk band consistently fills local music halls with fresh sounds and, more importantly, dancing people. Book In Due Time and you’ll see why: Music comes first. Boundaries get broken. And everybody, everybody is invited to come on in.

During their four years together, In Due Time has warmed up the dance floor for national touring acts including The David Mayfield Parade, March 4th Marching Band, Natty Vibes and many more. IDT’s self-titled 2012 EP flies off the merch table at shows and has a strong online selling presence. With their fun vibes and ultra-danceable tunes, In Due Time has built up a loyal Denver following with a love of dancing, drinking and getting fantastically funky fresh.
