Bio

One of the biggest traditional singers from the Colombian south pacific coast, author of Currulaos, Rumbas, Bundes and Jugas. She was born in Timbiquí, department of Cauca in Colombia. She is a legit carrier of the ancestral tradition of the “Bambuco Viejo”, that resonates inside her chest and projects that on stage.

She has received several recognitions for best voice in the category of traditional marimba as well as recognition for best unpublished song in the “Petronio Álvarez” Festival. Many of her songs had become representative popular hymns-like within the music that comes from the south pacific coast, through recordings that she have been doing with bands like “Santa Bárbara de Timbiquí”, “Grupo Socavón” and Grupo Canalón”.

She releases her first work as a soloist singer in 2012, with “La Voz de la Marimba”, that is an album where there is a convergence of traditional musicians and urban musicians with great local recognition, with new elements of interpretation and texture within the tradition, taking the music somewhere different and at the same time leaving exactly the tradition patterns that the author Ines Granja has been doing through her whole life.

She has been in Brasil representing Colombia on an intercultural embassies encounter accompanied by musicians of Lucía Pulido, a recognized Colombian jazz singer. In the past Inés was the director from the “culture house” of Timbiquí, and she had left innumerable pupils all along the pacific coast within different schools as well as in Bogotá where she had done workshops for kids, young and adults, divulging and preserving its tradition.
